i have a bb 8100 thats gone completely dead on me. It happened after i tried to upgrade the os on the device but it failed for some strange reason, now it wont turn on just the red led constantly flashing when i plug it in the computer with or without the battery in it. The device wont detect on the pc, ive also tried jl_cmder but it didnt work, nothing works.

Pre-Install Tasks

1. Disconnect the device from the PC

2. Download and install Desktop Manager and the Handheld OS to the PC (if they have not already been installed):

Command Line Tasks

1. Start a Command Prompt in DOS from the PC (Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt or Start >> RUN >> type CMD >> hit enter

2. Change the directory to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

* If you do not know how to navigate to this directory follow instructions

for 32-bit OS
From C:\ prompt type:

cd \Program Files <hit enter>
cd Common Files <hit enter>
cd Research In Motion <hit enter>
cd AppLoader <hit enter>


for 64-bit OS
From C:\ prompt type:

cd \Program Files x86<hit enter>
cd Common Files <hit enter>
cd Research In Motion <hit enter>
cd AppLoader <hit enter>

3. Make sure Desktop Manager is NOT running

4. Connect BlackBerry to the PC

5. Enter the following command in the Command Prompt window:

loader.exe /nojvm

Installation

1. The Application Loader Wizard window will open

2. Click on Next

3. You will get a drop down list with the COM ports and one USB port entry

4. Select the one which says USB:UNKNOWN

* If you do not see USB:UNKNOWN or USB:BBPIN, then follow instructions listed below

1) Disconnect the device from the PC.

2) Keep the Application Loader Wizard window open

3) Remove the battery and put it back

4) While the red led is on, reconnect the device to the PC. The led will only stay on for a few seconds

5) When USB:UNKNOWN appears in the drop down list, you need to immediately select Next


5. The loader should now connect to your device and you will be able to reinstall the OS

I've tried that before and it didnt work, the computer wont detect it so nothing appears in the drop down list. when i insert the battery the led stays on for about two minutes then starts flashing, i remove the battery then plug it into the usb, nothing but lights, i'm out of options here.

For what it's worth, some people have had to repeat many, many times to make the connection. Apparently the timing can be tricky. If you've already been at it a while, then never mind. But if you've only tried it once or twice, spend another 30 minutes repeating. I know some have said it took them 20+ tries to get it.

Other than that, I don't know. If you don't get it to connect after a dozen or so tries, I would say time to give up on it.

make sure you refer to my original post to the font in red adding the syntax to run the program with "nojvm"
