Default BB 9700 on 'The One' from 3 UK

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all, I'm on my first BB (since Jan this year). A very tidy 9700 - from 3 UK. I'm very pleased (mostly) with the device.

1) I'm experiencing many dropped calls and it's costing me a fortune calling clients back all the time (and reputation!). Is this a common fault on the BB 9700? 3 UK say it's because my SIM is 6 years old and needs to be replaced with a new one...

2) Also, I'm having to upgrade my price plan as I always go over my talk-time, so upgraded my price plan to a new deal called The One. This is a great package (on paper) and it will kick in for me on 21 July. This deal comes with 2000 xnet mins, 5000 SMS, 3000 3-3 mins + 1Gb data plan. But no BIS.

Now, I'm new to BB, so what does this mean to me and my 9700 when I'll have 1Gb data but no BIS?

I will need somesort of PUSH email (or close to it)

Please, I would appreciate any advice on this - have tried lengthy conversations with 3 a number of times, but customer service by telephone is not their strong point...

Thanks in advance.

1) a SIM replace would be a good idea. And to me, first easy step to troubleshoot your dropped call problems.

2) You need BIS for push email. As well as browsing, Blackberry messenger, blackberry maps, facebook app, and almost all other applications that use data.
Having 1GB of data on a blackberry, doesn't mean alot as you cannot use it.

Thanks MidnightDraven, I grabbed a new SIM today, so far so good...

I didn't realise BIS was so integrated - data access on my Nokia e71 was very different. I'll see if 3 will swap the 1Gb data plan for Blackberry Add on instead.

Thanks

No probs.
And yes, unfortunately it is. Blackberry's use RIM's servers to communicate the data between your BB and the network; which is why a specific data plan is needed.
