Default Email Setup on new 9700

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and new to Blackberry's so please be gentle! My email setup screen is not as shown in the quick guide leaflet that came with the phone. I only get the following option:

'I want to use a work email account with a blackberry enterprise server'

.... and the book says it should show a second option for setting up things such as hotmail, google mail etc. I can still access these mail boxes by using the web browser but I imagine it would be much easier to set it up properly. Can anyone advise why I don't have this second option and how I can get it?

If it's of any importance, I'm in the UK and the service provider is O2.

Many thanks for your help folks!

Rich.

You need a blackberry bolt-on on your account.
Do you have this?

rich_959,

Contact your wireless provider and request a BlackBerry Data Plan. Most of them have two options a BIS/Personal and an Enterprise. An Enterprise is only required if you are performing an Enterprise activation on your Smartphone.

Hope this helps,

Yeah, I have the blackberry bolt on as part of the O2 'Blackberry Simplicity' Package. In my setup section there's also an O2 icon which you click and gives you the option to 'get settings' but when I follow that, I just get an SMS saying 'We had problems dealing with your request for settings'. Time to contact customer service then. I thought so, but just thought I'd check on here incase I was doing anything stupid and could avoid a lengthy phone queue! Cheers guys.

Do you want to connect to your firm's BES? If so, then you need to contact your BES Admin as he/she has to do it.

If you are using BIS and trying to connect to your firm's Exchange server via BIS, then check our FAQ for how to set up email on your device and using BIS

rich_959, I had a similar problem when I received a replacement 9700 from T-mobile. I ended up going back to the beginning of the setup (Setup - setup wizard) and after a couple of tries the option for BIS/personal showed up.

Dubdub, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the faq's but the option for setting up BIS/Personal email simply isn't on my phone. When I go to email setup, I just get the BES option.

Ultraspaz, thanks - after speaking to O2 it appears they had screwed up adding the blackberry bolt-on to my plan, so although I'm getting the 3G/edge logo coming up, I'm not actually getting the proper blackberry data/settings. They've done that now, and I just have to wait up to 24 hours. When you were switching off and re-checking for the personal email set-up option, did you remove the battery (so it brings up the scrolling/loading line with the blackberry logo) or just switch off and back on with the switch as normal?

Thanks again for your responses guys.

Switching the phone on and off, does nothing.
You need to pull the battery for it to reboot.

Long as they did fix it, it shouldn't really take that long.
Try it now.

Phone off, battery out for 2 or 3 mins, back together, did the 'Blackberry' scroll thing.... AND........ still no personal email option in the setup. As an aside, the google maps that I downloaded today is still not working - it says

"Network unavailable: This app requires a data connection and some blackberry devices require reconfiguration to work properly".

All part of waiting for O2 to sort the data plan I guess? Where did I put my battered old nokia.....

Are you connected to your company BES?

Was this a new or a used device?

Not connected to any BES.
It was a brand new 9700, bought as a handset only from O2.

If it doesn't spring into action by this time tomorrow, I'll get back onto customer services.

All sorted folks, thanks for your input. Kept doing a reset yesterday with no joy but when I did it this morning, I got a blackberry registration email and the setup options were all there (and google maps is now working too). Just O2 dragging their heels setting up the data plan I guess.

Thanks again!

Rich.
