New T-Mobile Curve User Questions
Please Login to Remove!
Hello all, please forgive me if this topic has already been mentioned. I search, as is requested, and came across nothing. Basically, all I want to know is whether the Blackberry Messenger, AOL IM, PIN Messages, etc are all considered data or text.
I have the Curve with T-Mobile Service.
Thanks

if you are using the AIM that comes with blackberrys it uses SMS, so be aware that you can go thru a bunch of text messages really quickly if you dont have unlimited.
most people here use JiveTalk which is a 3rd party Multi Client IM program.

WRONG! JEG082 is correct.
All the IM apps on the TMobile Curve (8320) use data. The only thing that uses "text" is sms. MMS uses MMS (sometimes included with text plans but check your plan for details.)
JiveTalk uses data too.

If you have tmo in the states (which u do) abd you want to use aim, yahoo etc.. You should have a text bundle.. The newer bundles (400,1000,or unlimited) all include pic msging (mms)... Grndfthrd features may not.. Check your acct.. U could check it on your mytmobile.com or call ;o)
If you don't have a feature, cost is $0.15 per msg, incoming and outgoing...

Concetta,
Welcome to the forums. Please check your facts. The OEM installed IM apps on the Curve from Tmobile DO NOT USE TEXT MESSAGES. They use data. There is no need for a text bundle if you just want to use those apps. They use DATA.

sorry for the question but why does it matter? you buy the blackberry service monthly and you get text and internet free.

Last time I checked, all the IM that comes with Blackberries uses text. Unless they changed on a recent update of their OS, than I stick by what I said and say it uses SMS and not Data.
If you want it use data, than you need JiveTalk.

IT USES DATA!!!!! Trust me! It uses data. The new IM apps on the 8320 from TMo use data. Many of the other ones use sms, but the TMo Curve IM apps are brand new and use DATA.

Data, Data, Data.
I believe the only exception is the original OZ POS which should not be used by humans.
Data, Data, Data.
BlackBerry Data Plans do not include text. Just ask all the people who thought unlimited data included texts and got surprises.

Correct, OZ is the only remaing iM app that continues to use SMS. All others use data, data, data.

John Clark, Sith_Apprentice, NJ Blackberry, Thank you!
It is amazing how many people just go rambling on without knowing what they are talking about. Thank you guys for clarifying. I recommend a short ban on people who dish out terrible information, and continually give bad information, no matter how they are proven wrong Whadda ya think?

The new pearl I got my wife at Christmas has that OZ app on it. It was news to me (this thread) that the curve does not have it. I would have assumed this is still the case had I come to this thread early. So honest mistake, I think.
