I have a BB 7290 and I have the Cingular Blackberry plan. When I turn the unit on, and turn on wireless, and it searches for network and initially says GSM and after a moment, it switches to gprs. Uggh.
I used to run a OS that was 4.1.5 and it used to stay GSM but I didn't have the blackberry plan on my account then. I tried changing the TCP settings:
APN: wap.cingular
Username:
Password: Cingular1
This is also to no avail.
I have also registered the phone with the PIN and IEM on the blackberrystart part of cingular's website.
I have yet to access the internet with this device since it was given to me. My questions are;
1) Could an older sim card be a possible origination of discord?
2) I have tried resending the Service books to myself many times but the unit doesn't stay connected long enough when it first turns on to receive them.
3) Being that I am running the BB 4.1.3 on this model, could that be the source of error?
4) Could it be on their part?
Any help WHATSOEVER is greatly appreciated

Without GPRS (all caps) you have no data. You'll need to call Cingular to have them fix your plan or find out what the problem is.

Thanks so much... You were right and it was the UNIT itself that conked out. It just died (even the PIN went to all Fs). But got another one and am in business. Thanks!
