Anyone know if there is an extended life battery available for the 8700? If so, where can it be purchased? My battery BARELY lasts a full day. Not a good design by RIM.

Haven't seen an extended battery yet.

More importanty it sounds like something may be wrong with your battery/device.

How heavy of a user are you? For your battery not to last a single day doesn't sound right. I send/receive over 100 e-mails a day, browse the web for at least 30 minutes, use BB Messenger, Verichat, BB Weather and some games and on an average day my battery doesn't fall below 75%.

My battery generally last 4 days w/80 email/day 10 minutes IM(Yak-On), 10 minutes browser, 2-3 calls, BBWeather, GoogleMaps. Now yesterday it drained in a day because I had 3rd party apps open and Cingular disabled my BB Plan, so the apps polled continously draining the battery.

Two of the largest drains on the battery are searching for network and screen display

Things to do to improve life:

1) Drain completely the first 3 charges
2) Charge completely (look at the status under options, not the bars, it will only be at 80% when you have "all bars") generally take 4+ hours
3) Make sure your 3rd party apps are running ok and not constantly polling
4) Keep your BB in the holster on on a magnet so it is asleep.

I'm using about 2000 min a month, about 75-100 emails a day, 15-30 mins IM/WEB, and I can just barely get 2 full days. One day is a peice of cake. Frankly, I'm impressed, coming from a Treo 650.

Depending on your signal strength, vibration, back light and such your battery will drain. Turn off Bluetooth if not using it and let the little guy sleep in its holster.

Depending on software usage also, things like Messenger running in the background all day, things like BBtoday BBweather, depending on how often you have them polling for information use up a lot of battery. On BBtoday, i made all the settings wait for as long as possible and the same with BBweather, if I need the information sooner and it has nt been updated I simply ask it to update manually. THere are a lot of factors, people forget that this is a battery after all.

Default Save battery time

I have found on previous Blackberry devices that if I Bluetooth on my battery drains nearly twice as fast as when Bluetooth is disabled. Get in the habit of turning on Bluetooth only when you are going to use it.

If you are not using Bluetooth, I suspect you may have a bad battery. My 8700 goes two or three days between charges.

Another thing to check is to make sure the holster actually turns off the screen on the BB. I had a defective holster and it never actually put the "little guy" to sleep.

I use mine extensively for voice and data and I have to charge it every day or every other day as well. The 7290 could go at least 3 days. Maybe i just use it more

My battery life seems to be declining a bit lately. Not sure if I'm doing any more than usual but I definetly notice a change.

I've just ordered the extended battery. That should solve any issues.

Default Do you think its the Zen theme?

I noticed my battery usage to be not as good lately. Could it be the theme? Maybe I was just traveling too much.

I got an extended battery for my 7130e. It does not perform as well as when I got it a couple of months ago. Currently it's no better than a standard battery.

I got it from Bell Mobility. I think it was defective because I went back to the store and got a new one which performs very well.

Either the frist one was deffective or they don't have a long lifespan.

Default BB 8700 battery problems

Yes, I have similar problems with extended battery for 8700.
I charged new battery for 14 hours, blue tooth is off, backlight brightness is on "20", I am not using device as a phone. And yet, fully charged extended battery went from 100% to 20% in 36 hours !
I am going to try fully charge and discharge 3 times.
Any other tips would be appreciated.
G'day and thanks from Oz.

It's not a bad design. It's just that the 8700 screen is so nright that any battery of that size will loose charge quickly. This is the price you pay when you have a high res. bright screen on a device that fits in your hand. There's only so much space a battery can fit in.

I put mine in the hostler, however, it's set to vibrate when in the hostler. will I save more battery life by keeping it our of the holster since vibrate is turned off?

Hmm...sounds like your device might have other issues. Maybe its always trying to get a signal and thats draining your battery? I'm a very heavy user of my 8700r. I receive over 100 emails a day, about 10+ calls a day, surf at least 30 to 45 minutes a day and I can go 4 days without having to recharge it.

I have read about the quick fix to the jvm error 102 but nothing is working for me, especially not the device manager. I have had to resort to buying another phone, but I really want to use my 7100i, besides this error appeared after 30 days
