Default BB 9800 Torch USB pinouts needed

Please Login to Remove!

Just got the BB 9800 and disappointed to learn of the lack (zero) of vehicle kits to support it. So I thought why not have a go at making one up? How hard can it be?

Anyone know or can advise the pinouts of the 9800's USB interface - I am guessing an external antenna connection will be there along with the charging pins that I can connect to a vehicle's roof/glass mounted aerial and a charging circuit.

Thanks, in advance for advice.

USB is an industry standard, so you can find the pinouts easily. There are, however, no external antenna connections within the USB plug. It has 5 pins - power and ground, 2 for data, and one for "ID." In general, I don't think ANY current generation cell phones provide connections for external antennas, although as soon as I say that, someone will pop up with an example of one which does, I'm sure. I use a glass-mount cradle for my Torch (called the iGrip) which mounts to the windshield, grips the Torch well and supplies power via the microUSB. Cost me $30 on eBay, works great, even with no external antenna (which can't be connected to a Torch or any other modern BlackBerry.)

You can find the microUSB pinout used on current BlackBerrys here, among many places.

Ah, proven wrong again! Thanks, knotty, I'd sure never noticed that tiny little connection under the battery cover. So... You have to remove the battery cover every time you put this into a dock, or do they provide a "modified" battery cover with the dock??

EDIT: I found the website of the manufacturer of this cradle (smoothtalker.com) and they claim to have cradles with antenna connections for my old 8900 Curve also. I just looked the Curve over thoroughly, and I don't see any antenna connectors anywhere, so how are they doing this??
