Default 7230 boot(?) problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, I'm very much a noob, so bear with me as long as you can. (TIA)

I bought my wife a refurb unlocked T-Mobile 7230 on eBay. She was looking for a PIM/Cell phone and we found this one for a good price. The cell phone part has been a PITA from day one. The reception was horrible. (Cingular-Mobile, AL. I have the same service with a Sony-Ericsson and have great service everywhere except the Cottage Hill-Knollwood area, for those of you familiar) Some days she can talk from almost anywhere, others, she could be standing in a Cingular office and not get a signal. She loved the PIM functions, and had started playing with the sync functions with her business Outlook account. All of that worked very well. But the Cell phone functions were getting to be a problem and costing her business. We decided to put her sim card in an old Seimans phone we had for standby, and let her use the PIM functions of the phone. However when we started the 7230 back up without a sim, only the little red light on the top would flash, and the screen would never come on. We put the sim card back in, thinking that it would not function without it, but nothing changed, it still won't boot.

Any suggestions?

Could be the device itself needs to be wiped using JL_CMDR. then reloading the operating system. There are plenty of posts about it! just search for JL_CMDR or Blackberry wipe

Stinsonddog's Blackberry Tips

Search stinsons tips too

Wipe device with JL_CMDR before doing the following

1. Install Desktop Manager (You can skip this if it is already installed)
2. Install firmware package for your device on your pc (You can skip this if it is already installed)
3. Make sure Desktop Manager is not running
4. Start loader.exe for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader
5. Click on Next in the Application Loader window
6. Remove the battery from your BB
7. Connect your BB to the USB cable
8. Reinsert the battery
9. The drop down list "Connection:" should now change from COM1 to either USB:UNKNOWN or USB:[BBPIN]. As soon as you see "USB:..." click on Next and Application loader should be able to reconnect to your device. Now you can reload the firmware.

As timing is important for this procedure, it can be possible that you have to repeat the procedure multiple times until you succeed. Good luck!

Thank you for answering promptly and politely.

I need to download this prog, connect my bb via USB, wipe the phone using this prog, and then follow your step-by-step. Is this pretty much it? Is the cell phone reception something I should expect from all bb products, or is there something I can do about that as well??

Thanks
Bud

I have never had much of a reception problem! Could just be the area you are in got to your service providers web site most have a map using zip code to show what coverage should be in a particular area. I am on my third BB and reception is fine for me!
