Default User (Users Name) can not be started, ServerDN not defined, user may restart aft

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

FULL TITLE - User (Users Name) can not be started, ServerDN not defined, user may restart after ScanGAL

Having a strange issue with our BES Server. We currently have the following setup:

2 x Exchange 2010 Servers
1 x BES 5.0 server (Latest updates)

We currently have two domains (DomainA and DomainB). Users mailboxes and accounts currently reside in DomainA. We are migrating user mailboxes from DomainA to DomainB using Exchange 2010 and then connecting back to the user account as a linked account. When I create a new user in DomainB I can connect a blackberry to the users account. When I move a mailbox from DomainA to DomainB I can connect a blackberry. When I migrated my mailbox from DomainA to DomainB I am unable to connect my blackberry to the exchange account.

I have checked that our BESAdmin account has send as permissions on the account and mailbox databaseas well as the Excahgne Organisation View only role. When I attempt to active my blackberry agains the BES server the mail arrives in my inbox but is not processed. When checking the MAGT logs I see the following:

[20000] (02/14 13:11:20.658):{0x19F0} RIM_HrResolveProxysFromDN - ResolveNamesMAPI failed from -2147221233
[30041] (02/14 13:11:20.658):{0x19F0} Starting handheld for Michael Armstrong
[30463] (02/14 13:11:20.670):{0x19F0} User Michael Armstrong can not be started, ServerDN not defined, user may restart after ScanGAL
[20154] (02/14 13:11:20.670):{0x19F0} User Michael Armstrong not started

I've been searching for the last two days on this and can't find anything that could be casuing it. Any help?

Michael

I would use the IEMSTest tool and post the output here for analysis.

Also, which OS is BES running on?

UPDATE:

Re-creating the MAPI profile BES server has NOT resolved the issue.

OK.

I've uploaded two screen shots. One called Working which is using an AD account called [email address] which syncs fine and Not Working which is using [email address] which doesn't sync.

Thanks

fadmin,

Yes - First thing.

It seems strange how it works for Exch2010.test1 users account but not mine. We have axactly the same permissions and BESadmin service account have send as permissions on both AD objects. Can't really find much regarding the following error messages:

[20000] (02/14 14:59:26.423):{0x1550} RIM_HrResolveProxysFromDN - ResolveNamesMAPI failed from -2147221233

[30041] (02/14 14:59:26.423):{0x1550} Starting handheld for Michael Armstrong

What is strange in both logs: There seems to be a Send As permission issue. Have you checked that your BESAdmin has all the rights it needs? (not the cause of your problem, but still something to check)

Both screenshots show EXCHV01 as Exchange Server. I thought the users were on different Exchange servers?

Hi,

Users are on the same Exchange server and mailboxes reside on the same mailbox database. Our service account definately have "Send As" permissions as I've checked this from within ADUC. Not too sure why the tool is indicating that it doesn't have permissions but when activating via the Exch2010.test1 account it works fine and I can send / recieve with no problem.

Are the users members of the same security groups?

What Active Directory groups are considered Protected Groups?
The following Active Directory groups are considered Protected Groups:
Administrators
Account Operators
Backup Operators
Cert Publishers
Domain Admins
Enterprise Admins
Print Operators
Schema Admins
Server Operators
Note: The Administrator and Krbtgt Active Directory user accounts are also considered protected.

What if my BlackBerry device user must remain in a Protected Group?
It is possible to modify Active Directory permissions to allow BlackBerry device users who are members of protected groups to send messages from their BlackBerry devices without creating secondary email accounts. Microsoft Support Knowledge Base article 817433 outlines a procedure for modifying the permissions associated with the AdminSDHolder Active Directory object that were modified by the recent Microsoft Exchange update. However, this procedure is not recommended by Microsoft or by Research In Motion (RIM).

Hi guys,

Manage to resolve it but I don;t know how / why it worked. Basically my account had the following x500 address associated with it:

X500 /o=Nexus/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=Michael Armstrong58d8f2cb

I basically removed this and it started working. I can obviously still send / recieve mail internally and externally and I going to try via the BB once it finishes syncing.

Any ideas how this worked?
