Curve 8520 wifi issues.

I'm aware similar threads have been posted but I've followed everything I can find on the issue and am still stuck.
I have a Curve 8520 which I got unlocked when I moved countries; I am now on another network with a BB data plan. My problem is with the wifi, it can see my wireless network at home and is listed but it isn't connecting (the connection doesn't have a tick or the wifi symbol isn't going bright). If I turn the mobile connection off and switch the wifi on and off it will connect for about 10 minutes.
It isn't the the router as I have connected two laptops and a kindle to it perfectly. It is running on b/g not n.
I've switched to hotspot browsers opinion. (I had a look at the APN settings after reading that somewhere also).
It the wifi options it saying; VPN profule is not found and isn't not connecting to UMA with a 'wireless network error'. I have contacted my mobile network but they have washed their hands of the problems blaming everything from my router to the government!
I upgraded my BB to use the wifi on a long trip I going on and am running out of time to get it working so any help would be greatly appreciated.
