Default 8820 and Wifi and IM progroms

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone know if the 8820 will work any of the IM programs such as Google talk, IM+ or JiveTalk to work over Wifi? I am thinking it is not going to work. I have tried JiveTalk and cant get it to connect.

Gtalk seems to work okay. IM+..no experience. I have not been successful with JiveTalk. I have sent an email to their tech support asking for configuration suggestions to run on wifi. Will post once I get an update.

Well that is great. But JiveTalk does not work for me. I get the message " Data Network Coverage Unavailable, Please Try Again Later"

Or I get class java.lang.IllegalArgumentException, Invalid Transport Type: BIS

What are your connection settings under Perfereneces?
Mine are: Transport BIS and Advanced Connection Parameters: direct=socket

When I try Google Talk, It prompts me to turn on the radio or cancel when I try to sign in. So that does not work either.

I get the same as wcberry on my 8820. I have not heard back from BeeJive Tech Support.

Do you have any special configuration in the preferences on your working 8820?

Yeah I'm anxious to see that JiveTalk sends us that setting asap, same situation as you .

I have confirmed it to work over WiFi, but have had issues if I wasn't also in EDGE coverage such that JiveTalk knows that there is service. The FreeRange app has the same issue where it is too smart for its own good in "airplane" mode.

RIM needs to provide a better API interface for apps to know if they are connected via EDGE, WiFi, or both.

I can confirm Goggle Talk does not work on the 8820 using WiFi. When it starts it immediately comes up and wants the Mobile Radio turned on. If you don't it exits.
I have contacted IM+ and JiveTalk asking if they are working on updates. JiveTalk has not responded. IM+ says they are in fact working on this and to check back. No time line for it though.

I can confirm from my testing that latest Google Talk 2.xx works fine over WiFi. The same goes for IM+ 5.1 Beta. JiveTalk, however, errors out if mobile radio is not turned on and would not even start pass the error to change connection settings.

I do my testing on 8820 by turning on WiFi and turning off mobile network. That way I know for sure whether or not specific app will work.

Is that with the OS version released yesterday? I haven't yet upgraded it yet and GoogleTalk does NOT work without a Data connection. WiFi active and connected, network connection disabled, Gtalk looks for data connection. I also have the same problem with MiniOpera. Won't browse through WiFi but BB Browser does...

The new version (2.X) is working wifi only for me on the 8820 without having the mobile radio turned on at any time.

That's been there since the first beta 4.0 opera mini. Make sure that your gsm radio is turned off while you're surfing on the opera with wifi. Otherwise you don't know for sure if you're actually using the wifi or gsm.
