Will BlackBerry OS 6 come to 9700 on the 12th ... ?
Please Login to Remove!
Does anyone here know if BlackBerry OS 6 will come to the Bold 9700 on August 12th (the same date as when the 9800 is scheduled to go on sale)? It'd make sense to me that it might just be released for the 9700, because of the emphasis being paid to the relationship between AT&T and the 9800's release. Because the 12th has been confirmed as being the release date for the 9800, I would surmise that AT&T has had this whole time to certify BlackBerry OS 6 for the 9800, which (I'm guessing) would mean that they probably certified the software for the 9700, as well (given that it's one of AT&T's more high-profile phones, and is similar enough in terms of hardware in certain respects to the 9800) ...

From what I have read, yes it will as well as for 2 other older BBs, can't remember which ones. Google it and you'll see the articles.

Why did you do that? Dude ... It's not a rumor anymore. The existence of BlackBerry OS 6 has been long confirmed, and support for the BlackBerry 9700 has also been confirmed. I asked what was a question based on confirmed information (and not speculation), which helped its being asked be lent some legitimacy (based on valid merits). Why move this to the Rumor Mill subforum? I ask you to respond directly to this, and explain your rationale for moving this thread without any apparent justification. To ban or not reply to me is to admit wrongdoing. Thank you.

Dude, when it is available, then it is no longer a rumor.
There is some OTHER speculation that OS 6 will be available on the NEW 9700 - the one with 512mb. Dude.

I understand your side of things, but again, I asked a question based on confirmed information and what is a known certainty. If my initial inquiry had been based on unsubstantiated speculation (i.e. BlackBerry OS 6 being said to come out for BlackBerry 9700 without any kind of confirmation from RIM or AT&T, which we all know isn't the case), then it would have belonged in the Rumor Mill subforum on the sole basis of it being predicated on what would have then been considered rumor. It's certainly a reasonable expectation that one can ask a question based on information that has been verified beforehand, and not have it be considered spreading innuendo.
Example: Suppose a reporter is officially informed by the White House that Obama was going on a diplomatic trip on a specific day, then it wouldn't exactly be far-fetched for that same reporter to follow up with a question such as "What time will he be scheduled to leave?," because then the reporter is working with not only verified information, but a reasonable expectation that the answer (or AN answer) is readily available or certain to have been already disclosed elsewhere. (Honestly; I'm not trying to start anything here, but the other moderator's decision to arbitrarily move my question based on erroneous reasoning defies any semblance of logic - I'm only trying to make things right.)

It takes the carriers MONTHS to certify new operating systems. It took AT&T one year to release the first update to the 8700. It took T-Mobile that long to release an upgrade to the 9700.
Just because you don't agree with a position doesn't make it erroneous.
If it is delayed at some point, do you retract all of your posts? Remember OS 5.0 on the 8330? Released, withdrawn, problematic,...
In any event, enjoy..

CURRENT models will receive OS 6. I'm not too sure why everyone thinks this rumoured refresh of the 9700 will be the one with OS 6.
It's a device that has not been officially announced. Therefore when RIM states the 9700, 9650 and Pearl 3G will have OS 6, they mean CURRENT available models.
A real shame is the Storm and Storm 2 customers will not get it. However from internal rumblings at RIM, employees are not to talk about Storm anymore. For their 3rd inception of the device they will no longer use that name. Supposedly the story goes that RIM is pretty ashamed of their first two touch devices and they want to move forward and forget about them.
Either way, just wait for one carrier to get the OS, delete the Vendor.xml file and you're fine.

I can purchase the 8520 and 8900 on Rogers web site today. Are they CURRENT models? Or is current subjective?

Current models as in the 9650, 9700 and Pearl 3G. Those are the only models that will get OS 6. No other current models will have it. All future models, I would assume will ship with it.

the 9700 section of THIS forum existed BEFORE it was available. so your point is invalid. i think its safe to discus OS6 related to the 9700. RIM announcing it makes it official.

Ah so it is your definition of current. I guess the Storm 2 isn't current either.

Dudes, quit the childish squabbles.
So, any idea when, approximately, OS6 will rock my trusty (yeah right, I'm on my 4th replacement) 9-seven-oh-oh?

torberry, Id estimate roughly a month after the 9800 release.
This was roughly the same amount of time since the first OS 5 device (which I believe was the 9700) and OS 5 for other devices.

And that's as accurate a guess as anyone can come up with. I'd love it available now, but it isn't.
The release date will occur shortly before the disappointment and rants begin about how unstable the new OS is.
