What exactly would this "risk" possibly be?

Most posters here agree that .147 brings useful improvements to performance and stability - as you might expect with later OS releases.

Provided you follow the installation instructions to the letter, you should find the loss of virginity painless and risk free.

So should I be upgrading to .147 or .243 - surely would make sense to use the more up to date one, but is it only 147 that is giving people results here?

says the latest is Latest OS : Bold 9000 4.6.0.243/4.6.0.126

Forgive me here, Im a complete noob to this. As I understand it the 243 is the main package number, but the application firmware is 126?

If so, should I be looking for the update with the application firmware as .147?

Yes to both. 147 is a beta version which you may be able to find with Google.

Well i thought i might as well try out using YouTube on the Bold and i'm getting the same results - can get the vids no problems via Wi-Fi however trying to connect via 2G or 3G brings up the Error message...

That's a pain in the ass as the iPhone 2G provide's excellent YouTube via EDGE with little or no problems - well as far as i'm aware...

Yeah, but the bold is still better ;)

Who cares about youtube anyway? when you say that iphone does "excellent" youtube - its still youtube mobile, and the quality still sucks. I cant say I really miss not being able to watch youtube videos, and I know it should only be a matter of time before I can anyway, when the next firmware comes out.

Oh yeah personally the Bold is better however Youtube is a bit like the Blackberry feature itself - you didn't realize you needed until you experienced it then you honestly can't live without it, and it's especially annoying that YouTube can be gotten on the iPhone but not the feature-packed Bold

Just a tad frustrating as the Bold has loads of capabilities so you would've thought it could do YouTube

YouTube works perfectly on Bold (v4.6.0.147), via 3G or WiFi.

Perhaps your carrier is the problem here?

I would probably think so Dave - i will admit YouTube does work via Wi-Fi however not on 3G...

I'll give them a phone tomorrow and see what's what

for all people who have the problem only with wifi and youtube here is the fix.
firstly go to options / wifi options / YOUR hotspot / wifi tools / wifi diagnostics.
Check "local ip address"
Mine says 192.168.0.197 for example.
(scroll down and you should see as gateway address the IP you will need to go into you router.)
secondly, go to that IP, ie. loginto your router, and find the DMZ option, and add your blackberries IP into the DMZ zone and enable and press save!
And Hey Presto!

One thought - I must be BIS and not BES as I didn't get this phne through work. After the latest OS update, I cannot change my default browser from 'hotspot browser' in browser options or advanced options. Whereas I understand BES can have it as 'blackberry browser'
Hi RonnyBoy

I had a similar issue when my default browser was set to Internet, yet when I was browsing, it kept showing HotSpot Browser.
I overcame this problem by going to Options > Advanced Options > Browser and changing the default browser (Internet) to another, saving it, and then changing it back again.

Hope this helps

I was using a BlackBerry Bold on Vodafone UK firmware 4.6.0.126.
I've been using it successfully without hindrance on my WiFi and 3G.
Using the BlackBerry Browser on blackberry emulation over WiFi with Wap Streaming disabled (as streaming WAP would be costly!).
Occasionally switched between mobile network Vodafone and WiFi and back again for testing purposes, all ok.

The main thing to look out for is the Buffering when the media player launches.
If it's buffering, you're in luck. If not, you'll get an error:
"an error has occurred attempting to play media" and its not going to work.

During the past 2 days, its failed on me 3 times. Each time, I tried switching between WiFi and 3G Mobile network, if no joy, I'd reboot the BlackBerry Bold.
Rebooting the BlackBerry frees up memory (A LOT OF IT TOO!). Ive gone from having 10MB to 30MB after rebooting.
Definitely a memory issue.

I've also updated another BlackBerry Bold with the latest firmware 4.6.0.150 and although memory management is better, it still keeps losing memory.
Until RIM release a useful firmware update that deals with the phantom memory loss, this is going to be an issue for most Bold users.

4.6.0.167 here.

Works under 3G, "an error has occurred attempting to play media" under WiFi. Tried it with the 'Hotspot browser" and all with the WAP setting changed. Still can't get it to work (over WiFi)
