Default Setting up Exchange on a Q5

Please Login to Remove!

Had real fun and games connecting a Q5 to exchange. All the help I have found says follow the instructions and it will work. What they fail to mention is that the username cannot be entered if it has a space in the name, the setup was insisting on a dot or at (Can't use the proper symbol forum won't let me which strangely is similar to the problems on the handsets.) symbol between the first and last name. I'm not a Blackberry fan and could not find away around it, so I type the name I wanted as Firstname Lastname with a space in the description field of the setup, I then copied and pasted that text into the username field, changed the description field to something more meaningful and the setup went through and configured correctly. The username format is as required by the windows login on a client PC so it cannot be changed easily for every user. Why do the likes of Blackberry insist on controlling what is inputted into setup options to such an extent it actually stops the setup. Never had a problem on the curves we were replacing.

So you don't like that fact that they are asking you to put in a VALID User Name.
Got it.

My argument is that Blackberry expect either firstname.lastname (See the Dot) or [email address] which is not correct for my Exchange setup.

The users login with Firstname Lastname (See the space). If you hit the spacebar in the username box on the Blackberry when entering a username it will add a DOT or At symbol which is not what I needed to set the username.

So the users AD accounts have spaces in them?
Interesting.

Perhaps you should comment at Cell Phones, Smartphones & Mobile Phones from BlackBerry.com and ask them to allow for this (unusual) behavior.

Yes they do, never had problem with iPhone or Android phones only Blackberry. All others accept usernames with spaces.

It is a natural thing to login using your firstname <space> lastname it is not essential to have a dot.

Emails have a dot of course [email address].

Never had a problem with AD and spaces in usernames.
