Unhappy Top Right Button Disfunctional

Please Login to Remove!

This is a problem that I have found with my Blackberry Bold 9700 after a firmware update to 5.0.0.593 and the problem continues with 5.0.0.656
The problem is that the right button on top of the phone which was initially functioning as a button which used to put the phone into Standby mode is not working at all after these firmware updates.
The left button on top which used to lock the phone( and used to show the owener's name on locking), now the phone locks but instead of showing the owner's name and the lock symbolm it just says Keypad is Locked.Press the lock button to unlock.
Is anyone else facing this issue and if so what can be done?
Is downgrading to a firmware version lower than 5.0.0.593 the only solution?
Thanks!

Top right button is the mute button, always has been. Top left is the lock button and from what you describe, works exactly as it is supposed to. It was changed a while ago in an earlier 5.X release.

Work's like a charm.
Thanks a lot!
Is there anyway we can change the functionality of those top buttons?!

stevew, the MUTE button also puts the phone into standby if held for a couple of secs.
Always have done.

sid, nope.

Thanks MidnightDraven, now that you have completely answered my question. The next doubt that arises is that why isn't the phone going into standby when I hold the mute key for a few secs??

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
steve answer suggested to me that he thought the button was ONLY mute, not standby.

However, the OS you have installed, has indeed stopped this function.

ugh.
i just installed the new one and i'm ****ing pissed off at it,
just because of the top key NOT LOCKING.

is there any way to change it so that it password locks and not just the stupid keypad ugh.

and how would you go abouts to downgrade, cause I'm going to do that if the password lock isn't available.

No there is no way to change it. I believe the many, many posts on this topic have all reached the same conclusion.

It's not a bug; RIM changed the way it worked.

P.S. I don't like it either, but I've learned to live with it.
