Yes, as long as you both have BlackBerry Data Plans provisioned on your accounts and neither of you are on a BES which is set up with a peer-to-peer encryption key.

Yes, as long as you both have a BlackBerry data plan. That's one of the benefits to BB Messenger.

If your BES has peer-to-peer encryption enabled, you will not be able to add anyone outside of your BES.

I understand it's a little off topic, but could somebody confirm this for me please?
In BB messenger, when I send a message, a clock face icon appears, and once it's done sending, I get a check mark with 'D' on it. A little later if I check again, it's usually changed to a check mark with 'R' on it. What do these letters and symbols mean?
For now I'm assuming 'D' is for delivered to the phone and 'R' is for received by the recipient. That is, 'D' means the message has been delivered but not read by the recipient yet, and 'R' means the recipient opened the message...
