Default 8320 - wifi features?

Please Login to Remove!

I understand that 8320 would be coming out on Tmobile @home service.
I have a question about wifi, in theory, what other benefits would wifi have rather than making calls over wifi?

Would it allow us to surf?
Would it allow us to receive emails over wifi (I see a security issue there)

For some floating screen shots of 8320
there's one that talks about wifi and says get your corporate email...

I am deciding with between 8300 and 8320
and wondering if the wifi would be a real benefit if I am not a tmobile customer.

No need to post it again. There already are some threads about 8320.

BBF Moderators, please will you kindly close this thread. Thanks.

Just running around policing people for posting questions which may or may not be easy to find or even way out of date, and not helping them in the slightest, probably isn't the way to go.

To the OP, speaking in a hypothetical sense:
I have a question about wifi, in theory, what other benefits would wifi have rather than making calls over wifi?
The main benefit is greater coverage. For a carrier such as T-Mobile, with a relatively limited network this is a huge advantage. You also gain greater download speeds as WiFi is MUCH faster than EDGE
Would it allow us to surf?
Yes.
Would it allow us to receive emails over wifi (I see a security issue there)
Yes. With UMA/GAN push mail can potentially be delivered just like it is over the cellular network.
The security issue is no more present than it is over a cellular network.

It has been reported on several websites... I think the website Boygeniusreport.com has listed some information regarding the release of the T-Mobile Curve aka 8320. Also, if you use the "Search" function at the top of the forums, and type "8320" you will find several threads about it. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

yes, but none of that is concrete. RIM hasn't even annouced this phone yet! until then they are pure speculations.

I have a feeling that RIM will annouce it sometime next month if it is to come in Sep.

No but I plan too shortly. I used to work for Tmobile USA - they do have outsourcing for tech you know and still have a few contacts there.

This number WILL sell like MAD!

Hmm, attachment looks promising. So, any words on release. shooting for sep?

I don't think it will get released in canada, will have to buy one off ebay!

I'm not under NDA hehe.

I'm not nowhere that highup. I'm just a pawn.
I've never personally held it or seen it live. I do think this'll increase RIM's coffers quite a bit. Ebay here I come.

I will delete it though ? save while you can.

Dumb question follows: BBs already have web browsers ... so what's the difference between that and "surfing" ?

I'm thinking he meant surfing over WiFi instead of just the network. Nothing specifically stating that OR Denying that either but the general announcement in the 8820 press release seems to say YES surfing on WiFi is capable.

@vakulm;

I can only guess - going from the last time the 8100 showed up on for reps to train to learn about it to being available in stores - was roughly 1.5 - 2mths. My guess is last 2 weeks of August to 1st week September to REALLY entice back to university/college reps @ work to style with ;).

Me I gotta establish a contact to purchase an unlocked 8320 when its official & shipping/retail avail.

I dont have VOIP at home but my neighbor does so what is the benefit of making calls on VOIP when you can simply make calls using the VOIP phone that the company provides. Am i missing something here.. i mean why use your BB when you can use the VOIP phone? excuse my ignorance....
