Filing messages--default folder

Can someone tell me where the setting is that designates the default folder to which a message will be filed? For example, in the inbox you pull up a menu and choose "file". A folder structure then pops up and a particular folder is highlghted by default.
We just switched out to all new handhelds, and one user indicates that before the change, when he would file a message, the handheld would "look" at the senders email address and the default folder to save to would be the closest match. Now it always defaults to one folder, and I can't find how to change this.
