Default blocking "unknown" phone calls on BB

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 7520 and want to block calls that come in with "Unknown" listed as the number so they don't even ring. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I think that would be something you'd have to do through your carrier's service.

Really? On my i730 phone, I could set up a Call Filter to block unknown numbers.

You'd think a BB would ahve this, but I am a recent convert.....so I'm not as well versed as some......

So, BUMP please.

How do you do that on a nextel phone?

To block on a nextel phone you go in to edit your current profile and select "Call Filter." It is set to off and change it to "Contacts." Only people listed in your address book will get through. All other calls go straight to Voicemail.

Wasn't the new 4.1 o/s for nextel supposed to support different ring tones for different users? Give "unknown" a silent ring.At least you won't be bothered...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7290/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I have the 7290 from cingular running 4.0 and I can set specific ringtones for people in my contact list. Not so sure about unknown calls though. A great way to block phone calls is stopping them at the source. If it is marketing simply have them place a do not call request for your number.

How do yo do it with the 7290? I have one and haven't been able to/ or heard of anyone who can. Is it exclusive to the cing software, I wonder?
I know it has been discussed sev time in the past with no POSITVE results ...

Ya but that is not blocking unresticted #'s solely. If say, my friend calls me from a payphone because his phone died he will go straight to voicemail since the payphone # is not in my address book.

I dont know of any carriers that offer call blocking for unresticated #'s. I know that landline services provide that but no cell providers that I know of. I have TMobile and have this collection agency calling me every day from a blocked #. I am not the person they are trying to reach and I have told them countless times to leave me a lone and stop calling. They still call and I have tried asking TMobile to bar blocked #'s and they said they dont do it.

there are applications available for devices (such as a Treo) that will enable this functionality, however it is doubtful we'll ever see this available for a BlackBerry. RIM would have to open up the phone app APIs in order for this to work ... very doubtful that will happen.

it is definitely impossible to do it with the 7290 from cingular. I was thinking of another (non-blackberry) phone on our plan.
