I'm really frustrated here. I've read all these questions and answers and I am totally lost. I'm not a programmer. I have no idea what you all are talking about. I've just upgraded from a regular Motorola cell phone where I was able to create ringtones and simply upload them. I want to do the same here but have NO idea what to do as your discussions above are totally greek to me. Anyone help a poor girl get a few ringtones on her BB? I would really appreciate some help that I can understand. Thanks.

Via your BlackBerry Browser, surf to the ringtone's URL. The ringtone will download to your phone and play. Use the trackwheel to save the ringtone. That's the only way to get a ringtone on your phone. You can't transfer them from your desktop. The ringtone has to be on the web somewhere.

Wirelessly posted (7130e VZW: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

discman2k3, you have to download the ringtone directly through your BB's browser. You can't transfer them via the desktop. Sorry to point this out, but if you've been reading for a couple of days, you missed my post which is exactly two posts before yours. It gives you the answer right there.

jblakewilson, the 7130e is not capable of playing ADP tones. That's why you're getting that error message. You're limited to mp3 and midi tones.

You have to find an upload server, load your file there and then download it via the BB browser. The server must be set up correctly so that your BB browser recognises the file as a ringtone.

Get a mp3 file that you want, 15-30secs is ok.
encode the file: (i use cool edit pro)
16-24kbs, 16000Hz Mono (haven't try higher settings)
save the mp3 file and uploaded it here (should be less than 512k)

http://www.coolservice.dk/en/compatibilities.php

use your bb browser to get the file, play it then save.
it works on my 7130e, and never bother changing it to adp files.

pls post if this works on your bb or not.
thx

Thanks a bunch!!! I have a 7130 with Verizon and this worked perfect for me.

Default Idea to bypass webserver - Avvenu - gonna try it

from a week-old newb (even tho i'm prolly older than all of you guys) But i just installed Avvenu.com software that let's me surf all the files on my desktop from my new 7100i - kinda like go2mypc...

Any experts out there think this will work. Download the ringtones to your BB directly from your own box without having to play admin with a webserver for the mime settings?

I'll let you know if it works for me in a little bit.

Unhappy Mobile Phone Tools

I know this may seem somewhat redundant, but I've followed your rules to the letter. I just have 2 questions. First, when I install the Phillips Phone Tools, it will not let me turn the file into an *.adp file. It doesn't work because when I highlight the "Multimedia Center" it is simply gray. It won't let me go into the menu. What am I doing wrong?

Secondly, do you have to have the Black berry connected to the PC in order to install the ringtones? I don't own one. I just make ringtones for them (atl least I'm trying to learn). Do I need a WAP site to upload them? Holla back. here or at [email address]. Thanks.

I wonder if this software has recently been modified.

I installed the Philips software as described. I got a message saying that the software would not function correctly without a phone connected.

The software came up, but the "Multimedia Studio" menu entry is greyed out. I did not find a "Melody Studio" menu item.

Are they onto us?

A php script can get over the incorect mime types problem as demonstrated here http://huenik.com/blackberry/ Using a normal web browser you can see the list of all the adp files, and be able to upload more. Or using bb browser you will simply see a list of files and be able to download them by clicking. Nothing fancy. But just something i did to get my tones to my bb. Feel free to use it if needed.

You can bypass Mobile Phone Tools to not use a phone connected. I'm not sure about the details, but I have however done this many times...
