Default Exchange Server Migration

Please Login to Remove!

We have had to install a new Exchange 2003 Server into our existing environment (same domain but different computer name) due to a need to retire the existing one.

The new Exchange server is now up and running but the BES (v4.0) does not appear to be synch'ing with the new Exchange Server.

Does anyone know whether there are any steps required to point the BES to the new Exchange Server or should it pick up the new location of the user mailboxes automatically?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Are you running the same service pack on your new exchange box? Are you running same service pack on your ech m tools?

Yes - running Exchange 2003 SP2 on new server the same as we had on the old one. Management tools also installed same as before.

You have set the permissions in the ESM for the BB service account on the new Exchange Server?

The permissions that need to be added are the Administer Information Store, Send As, and Receive As.

Also, go into BlackBerry Server Configuration --> BlackBerry Server --> Edit MAPI profile. What profile is it pointing to?

You need to follow Move the administration mailbox and Migrate from Exchange 2000 to 2003 in a BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 or 4.1 environment

The problem is now sorted so many thanks mischief007.

It turned out that when we transferred the mailbox for the BES admin account from the old Exchange server to the new one it did not retain its permissions.

By re-adding the Administer Information Store, Send As, and Receive As permissions and re-starting the services on the BES all of the user accounts started to synch. with the new Exchange server.

You understand that when you set permissions you set them on an object and that by moving the user to a new server you would need to set permissions again, correct? This is by design and is a fundamental concept to permissions assignment.
