Default Migrating users from Exc.5.5 to 2003 problems with BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have migrated some users from an exchange 5.5 server to a 2003 server, and am having problems with BES 3.6.2.14. When I try to add a 2003 user using the GAL to BES it fails with error an message.

xxx8220;Failed to add user xxxx to the BlackBerry Server. Unable to open mailbox for user. The user's mailbox may have been deletedxxx8221;

I added BESadmin as a delegate within exchange system manager on the exchange 2003 server, but this has not helped, I still get the same error message.

I have to admit I am a bit stuck as to what is causing the error, I did not setup the blackberry server, it was done by someone who was in my role previously, all users currently listed in BES have the 5.5 server name listed under the Exch.Server column, but I cannot see how to add users from the other server ?

Any help appeciated.

You need to go back to the Exchange System Manager, right click on your 2003 Exchange, Properties, Security, highlight the BlackBerry service account and then add these permissions: Administer Information Store, Receive As, Send As.

Also if you are running Exchange 2003 SP 2, upgrade to Service Pack 7. I've seen it work with your version but in the end it is not supported by RIM's standards.

HI, I have actually tried adding Admin for Information Store, Receive As, and Send A which I found in a RIM technote, but still cant get this to work.

Does anything need to be rebooted ? I have restarted all services, but still no joy.

Do these permissions exist at the mailbox store level as well?

Yes the security exists at server and mailbox store level and the permissions have been set at both of these levels.

There is really only one solution for this and it is permissions. Do you currently have any users on the BlackBerry Server? If you do, check the application log in the Event Viewer and see if you see any warning messages that might say something like User Not Started and before that should be an actual error message.

Hi error message is as follows, it was the only one in EV.

================================
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BESManMMC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20000
Date: 05/07/2007
Time: 09:08:29
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 20000 ) in Source ( BESManMMC ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Failed to add user xxxxxxxxx to the BlackBerry Server. Unable to open database for user.
==================================

I have double checked permissions and the BESadmin account has the correct permissions set at both server and mailbox store level.

You will probably have to dbclean that user in order to get them to work again.

I see what your saying, but this is effecting "all users" that are on the new 2003 server, do i need to run dbclean against all users? After all some of them are new users created just to test functionilty and the migration.

Glad i am not the ony one suffering to get to grips with this

Something changed in that BlackBerryHandheldInfo folder in their mailboxes so it looks like we may have to do that. Try for one user though of course and you will know for sure if it fixes it.
