Default Back-Up and Restore?

Please Login to Remove!

I want to do an open source project for a company. This involves deleting my Address Book, entering fictitious people, syncing that to their server, making changes to the new entries, deleting them, then restoring my original Address Book (AB). Scary for me.

In my attch below, why do I have two AB's in the device side? Did I accidentally add one?

To do what I stated above, do I clear the AB's, one or both on the device side? Will that delete my entire AB on my phone?

Then when finished with the project, I do a restore (Advanced) and bring up the most recent backup from my computer from left side of screen on attch below, select the AB, then click the right arrow to restore all entries to my device.

Will all profiles, contact alerts, and ringtones be copied back over to the phone?

All sounds confusing to me and hope I explained it well enough.

Nice 2 Back-Up and Restore threads back-to-back.

Found this, anyone try it?

1. Go into your address book
2. Hit the Option key and type "rset".
3. Yes to clear all address book data.

Will this work for my needs, or is this to only clear data and reenter data manually. I figure I can then just go to Restore Advanced and restore the "Address Book All" from my attch avbove. Not sure what the difference is between the Address Book and Address Book All.

Ok, so all you want to is delete your contacts and then restore them when the project is done.

If so simply do a full backup (and sync your contact with something like Outlook as an extra precaution) then clear the address book or address book - all it won't matter because clearing one will clear them all in your case.

This will delete your address book off your phone. Until you restore it or add the people back.

Hope this helps.

Thanks SteveO86,

Seems if I do it that way the entire Address Book, Icon, all data, and profiles should be restored. Right?

Do we know why there are 2 books to begin with? Are they dups or serve different purposes.

BTW, this is for Funambol, and by participating in this project for my 8900, I can get the basic 90 day demo free indefinitely. The calendar and contact features with the demo are all I need.

You really only do have 1 address book, address book - all is pretty much the same thing, similar to the Calendar and Calendar - All entries (however you only ever have 1 address book)

What do you mean by Icon, Data, Profiles? You BB profiles are stored in a separate DB entitled Profiles. By Icon do you mean contact picture?

I mean if I delete the address book-all, won't I lose the entire address book on the phone including the home screen icon?

So, when I restore, the Icon, address book with all it's data entries and contact profiles like contact ringer alerts will all be restored. Just like when I do an OS upgrade.

Thanks,

Ken

You won't lose the icon for the address, you will just simply lose all your information inside the address book.

I would assume so but I'm big on custom ringtones/pics. (Referencing the second part of your question)

Thanks for all the help SteveO86,

I'll see how it goes. I like this OTA Funambol Sync software. Would like to continue to use free.
