Default MAGT Logs -- usage stats

Please Login to Remove!

I'm trying to get usage stats from MAGT logs, showing how many devices are in "active" use (i.e. more than just switched on).

I believe that the line "Receiving message from device" means a user has sent an e-mail using the device. But I cannot work out how to tell when a user has read an e-mail. The line "Sending MORE to device" shows that the user has requested to read "more" of a long e-mail, but what about a one-screen e-mail?

Any thoughts? Note that it's not sufficient to know that an e-mail has been sent to the device -- I need to know that the device (and not a desktop) has been used to read the e-mail.

If anyone is interested, I have some experience of getting usage stats from the MDAT logs (e.g. number of websites visited by users, etc) if anyone find this useful.

Regards,

Dan

Use the tool MessageFlow.exe to see when people send messages from the HH ... there is no tool to see when a user reads a message on a handheld that doesn't require "more"

Unfortunately I don't have access to the BES itself, I simply get sent MDAT and MAGT logs for all days in a month and have to extract any meaningful stats from them myself.

Does anyone know of some sort of spec for the logs? Something like "this line in the logs means this"? RIM have not been able to help me.

Tell whomever is sending you the logs to also send you the DISP and ROUT logs and you'll be able to use MessageFlow.exe

You can use the HistoricalStats.exe from the BRK to see who's doing what.

Maybe export code [40572] from the MAGT Log.

This would be relevant to MESSAGE_STATUS_UPDATE requests from handhelds.

It may not do what you want, but the BlackBerry Monitoring Service lets you run reports for your least/most active users.

Might be worth a look at.

Thanks for that. I've now found that the answers are:

E-mail received = [30085]
E-mail read on BlackBerry = [40572] (as above
E-mail sent from BlackBerry = [40292]

I still don't know why you're not using the tools in the BRK to do this for you ...
