Default WHAT IF? What would you think of a SurePress Bold Touch?

I just thought of it today, as I used a Storm 2 while en-route to swap from a Torch 9810 to a Bold 9930. I LIKE the click. I hate it when I text, as it artificially adds a delay between when you release one "key" in favor of another. But, what if that wasn't there? You aren't typing on the touch screen of a Bold. You really don't NEED to type on the touch screen of a Torch 9800/10. What if the sole purpose of SurePress was for clicking icons and links? Moreover, what if RIM was able to implement SurePress and have the ability to turn it off? Would it be worth the R&D to, perhaps, ship a Bold with it turned on and the ability to turn it off? Or, ship a Torch with it turned off and the ability to turn it on. Sounds like a way to distinguish themselves, especially from the ocean of all-touch handsets.

I'd use it to throw against the wall. What a POS that thing is...really. I took my Storm and ran it over with my car...and that was fun!!

Understandable, but was that SurePress's fault?

Yeah I would have never come back from my Droid phone to this Bold if it had that horrible sure press on it.

Why yes, it was!! SurePress was/is a huge POS. Interesting concept, poor execution. I guess that's why the Storm wasn't anywhere near as well received as say, the Bold or the Curve.

Some perceive the 9530 Storm to be the worst BlackBerry ever. Surely Surepress must shall part of the responsibility for that. I agree with SteveW, Interesting concept, atrocious execution. I doubt very much if we'll ever see Surepress again.

The original Storm with SurePress and the horrible lag in the OS took about 3 weeks to make me hate BlackBerrys. It says a lot about a model when it can anger users so quickly. SurePress = FAIL. Good riddance!

3 weeks? It took me 3 minutes. In 3 weeks, it was flattened out like a ribbon after I ran it over using my car. I have a Dodge Viper with 13" wide rear tires, which I used in fact, just to make sure I didn't miss my mark. I wanted to destroy it in one single pass, leaving no remnants! It worked too! Bell wouldn't take it back - and I b!tched so hard, I got them to give me a $400.00 usage credit subsequent to the Storm's destruction.

Yeah, but you're bundling SurePress with other weaknesses of the 9530. It was low on app memory, ran an older build of the OS with atrocious memory leaks, and was trying to make a keyboard-only OS into a touch-only OS. I only disliked SurePress in a typing environment.

If RIM goes anywhere near SurePress I'm buying an iPhone immediately.

Given that the 98xx and 99xx don't use Surepress, I'd bet that it is dead.

Lets dig it up and drive a stake through the corpse's heart. Just to make sure.
