Blackberry won't charge until rebooted

My 8220 has a bug that once it fails to charge (due to low power chargers or usb ports), it won't accept a charge at all until it has been rebooted. I've found lots of posts about the usb ports needing updated drivers and this is an issue I'm sure but I've seen nothing about a phone needing a reboot in order to charge again. Is this normal?
