Angry Serious Problem with 8520 curve but is it Blackberrys Fault?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, I'm having ridiculous problems using the internet with my 8520
I never use Wi-fi just connect via my internet provider T-Mobile(webnwalk).

It had been running fine for the first two months of my contract, but last week it started to run ridiculously slow maybe a page every 3-4 mins, it's really struggling to load pages sometimes not even connecting at all. I noticed that when I'm not able to connect the GPRS signal changes to GSM?

I've rang T-Mobile about 18 times and each advisor has a different view, some say my area is having problems(false because I check my area connection).
Others say it's Blackberry that's having problems they have released a statment saying alot of BB users are having problems. I've read the statement and it's problems with App world and BB messanger, there's no mention of internet issues. Sorry to go on but I'm so fed up I've been with T-Mobile for 4 years and never had serious issues like this.

Should T-Mobile address this issue or should I sit and wait patiently like they suggest and wait for Blackberry to fix the issues?
I'm fed up of paying and waiting please Help

Your in a bad area based on the GSM display. Does this change to GPRS or another display? Upper or lower case characters?

Yes it does, constantly changes upper, lower then GSM
eben when its upper case it's still loading at a miserable rate.
I can't understand it because it's been fine the last 2 months.
Also when I type my postcode in on T-Mobile's area connection check
it says 90-95%. Thanks for replying by the way.

GPRS itself is very slow. Like dial up modem slow - 30kbps. Really slow.
If it keeps dropping from GPRS (ugh) to GSM it means a poor signal, regardless of that the T-Mobile website says.

So should I ask to be put on 3G?
What would you suggest to get a solution mate?
Cheers for your advice.

GPRS - EDGE - 3G.

I have never heard of asking to get 3G. Either your area gets it, or it doesn't..

One reason why most people on the Forum site suggest to new potential BB users they go with the carrier that covers the areas they intend to be in most.

Yes, that's exactly right.. Choose the carrier first and then the device. Unfortunately no one can help if you are in a poor reception area. Complain to T-Mobile and try to get a refund.

That is correct, the 8520 is EDGE only.

Have you tried a battery pull to see if that can speed it up?

Kev,

I've had exactly the same problems with my 8520. Not only does the mobile web run really slow, I've been getting poor call quality, it's very frustrating. I'm assuming that this is also caused by the GPRS network. I rang T-mobile and asked to be switched to 3G but they said that this network is not available on my phone and that it's BlackBerrys fault.

The services I'm paying for are not working so it's only fair that we are entitled to return our phones without penalty. They should not be selling products that don't work! Surely we have some sort of consumer rights!

I'm going to call again and if the problem is not sorted soon i'm cancelling my direct debit!

Eddie, the 8250 is not a 3G capable phone.
This information was readily available before purchase.
Its not blackberry's fault, they created this phone as an entry level device.

You have the trial period to make sure the phone works. It is up to you to test it and ensure the phone works before the trial period expires.

If you get a phone that is not 3G capable, then there is no way to make it so. Again, one of those things that need to be checked BEFORE you buy.

Cancel your direct debit. Be prepared to pay the ETF if you purchased a subsidized phone.

I am not sure if you are in the US or not but I know most of the United States is being moved to 3G. I know T-Mobile has an agreement with AT&T on sharing of their networks, I also know that AT&T is doing away with all of the EDGE - GPRS networks. If you are in one of those areas, this could be your problem.

OK - the 8520 doesn't have 3G. So it doesn't matter what country or area you are in or carrier you are with.

And if AT&T is getting rid of their EDGE network, that will really upset the vast majority of people who still don't have 3G phones. AT&T and T-Mobile have different 3G networks and cannot share. Their frequencies are different.

HeXxTek - Where did you get this information from?
