Default 4.2 upgrade preventing outgoing calls from connecting?

Please Login to Remove!

On a VZW 8703e... after upgrading to the 4.2 software, outgoing calls began getting stuck on "calling" and not connecting. Rebooting or cycling the radio off/on, allowed you to make a call or two before the problem surfaced again. Incoming calls and data, no problem.

Tech support couldn't solve the problem, so they just gave me a new BB.

Well, I upgraded to 4.2 (again from the VZW site), and the same darn problem is occurring again.

This phone is a clean slate, so it has to be the software. The tech support people say they aren't getting calls about this, but could it be that not many 8703 users are upgrading?

IMO, 4.2.1 was a disaster for RIM (and us.) It introduced many more bugs than it fixed in many cases. If I didn't need something in 4.2 I would roll back to 4.1. Just my $.02.

Default why doesn't the quote function capture the subject too

I'm about to try to roll back. This is ridiculous.

What might the repercussions be if I use the Telus or other carrier v4.1 software to roll back?

None. Backup the device using DM Backup/Restore. I also recommend this if you have 3rd party apps you'd like to restore.

Then use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and then run application loader to reload the OS of your choice.

Thanks for the info. Will give it a shot and see what works.

I can't believe I'd be unique if both BBs had the same problem.

Update:

Downgrading to 4.1 fixed it.

The sad thing is I could have done this on the old BB and saved the $50 deductible.

Hopefully they'll work out the bugs, I really liked a few of the features. I did IMMEDIATELY notice how much louder 4.1 is vs. 4.2 after the downgrade.

Exclamation v4.2 blocks outgoing calls

I recently updated my 8703e (verizon) to the new OS v4.2 and now the phone freezes when making outgoing calls. Have to toggle radio on/off to unfreeze the phone. See others with same promblem.

How can I find the prior OS v4.1 so I can downgrade and reinstall the old OS? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

l had these exact issues after upgrading my 8700 to 4.2. lt was as if the phone could not recognise the address book so any numbers l rang were unrecognised, sms also went, they would leave but not deliver, s'pose there all floating around in hyper space, l don't know. Anyway determined not to loose my new desktop l spent the last 2 days, (while the forum was asleep), trying everything l could think of to remedy this situation. What l found was people could ring or sms in, that was ok. You replied to their sms or call and save this message contact to your address book to replace the one you have. Problem for this number only solved, l can ring, sms from the address book. Well this is ok if you only have a few contacts, get them to sms you and reply/save address but l was determined to find out why. Upon examining the new numbers l had saved l very quickly noticed that in the case of mobile or home numbers the zero or area code had been replaced with the country code, in my case, +61. l solved my issues completely by editing all the numbers in my address book this way. Phone works better than ever, l hope it stays this way. l'm not sure if this action will resolve your issues but maybe it's one of the new built in quirks with 4.2.
