Hi,

I recently purchased a Bold 9700 (switched from iPhone 3G) and for some reason my text messages do not work.

I sent a couple text messages to my friends, but they never received the messages. On my 9700, it shows the texts as sent. What could the problem be? I know for sure I got the unlimited SMS plan from AT&T. Could it be some problem in the settings menu?

I'd like to apologize for my ignorance beforehand.

Edit: Could it be the firmware version that I'm using?
The current firmware version is v5.0.0.405 (Platform 5.1.0.112).

OK, simple question for you. Did you get the BB data plan also?

You don't need a data plan for texting...it's probably a carrier issue with his phone/plan. Call your carrier - there's no reason it shouldn't work. They may have to reset your account or something like that.

try to go to Options > SMS Text > scroll down to data coding, you will have there two choices: 7bit and UCS2, choose 7bit then hit menu button and safe, it worked for me
