Default Battery icon with red slash??/

Please Login to Remove!

I received a CS1 battery with my 8700 but had a CS2 from a previous model. I used the CS1 battery for 2 recharges but swapped to the CS2 as it seemed to hold more charge. Now when I insert the CS1 battery the device powers up with a dim screen showing a large battery icon in the centre with a red slash through it. Even if I charge the battery for hours it still doesn't disappear nor will the device power up. If I put the CS2 battery in, it powers up as normal.

Any ideas what this icon may represent?

It means that the battery isn't compatible with your unit. The BB knows which batteries you have inserted, and maybe once it got a CS2 (which is the correct battery for an 8700,) it stopped permitting the CS1 to be used?

You can get new CS2 batteries from eBay for about $10 shipped, so you can buy a few spares.

Bugger...fancy not allowing the original battery to work with the unit it came with! How are you supposed to use two batteries as I spend a fair bit of time on the BB...having a 2nd battery is handy but not if it isn't going to allow you to change.

You can use two CS2 batteries without a problem, your problem is switching between the CS1 and the CS2

you mentioned that c2 from the previous model?... if it is a "previous model", it means it is not for your 8700.

anyhow, i am sure the manual tells you that you only can use the original battery that came with the 8700, right?

just like I went to Walmart to get oil change, and asked them to change my light at the rear. they gave me some light bulbs with were from other model. They worked while the guy installed and showed me. However, once I drove off from Walmart, it stopped working. I finally found out the model of the light they gave to me were not comparable to my car. The guy who did the oil change just assumed they worked because they looked alike. ...

The CS2 is offered as an additional battery to purchase for the 8700 on the Blackberry website so you'd assume it would work. No where in the manual or on the website does it say not to mix the two types of batteries...in fact both the CS1 and CS2 are offered by Blackberry for the 8700 as accessories.

Default Battery is coded I believe

It is my understanding that the new 2 series batteries are coded to work with the newer BB's, I am sure one of RIM's ways of trying to stop people using generic compatible batteries and having to buy genuine RIM replacements. I had a 7100V and when I got my 8700V I thought great, I can have two batteries and experienced exactly the same thing with the series 1 battery from the 7100V. I can use the series 2 in either but only the series 1 in the older 7100V.

If you find yourself killing your battery, maybe try the c-h2 (extended battery). i cant vouche for how long it lasts, but advertisements says 75% more life. they can be found for about 45 shipped, if you can find someone with them in stock, pretty good sign if they are always sold out i guess?

Unhappy Similar Problem

Hello,

I bought a used Cingular 8700c blackberry 6 months ago from ebay. The phone has been working fine. Just yesterday, I noticed when I charged my phone the screen showed dim lighting with a battery symbol that had a red line slashed through the battery.

The battery is a C-S2 with a lock symbol next to it. The lot code is G0541r. It is a Lithium Ion Rechargeable battery, 3.7 V.

Yesterday I removed the batter from the phone, and then placed it back in the phone, it was fine. Then last night I went to charge it, and when I woke up this morning the battery with a red slash through it appeared on the screen. I have been using this battery for the past 6 months, so I do not see why it will cause me problems all of a sudden? Did something happen to it? Do I need a new battery? If I do need a new battery, can someone tell me the exact battery I need? Or what I can do to remedy this situation?

Thank you in advanced for all your help. This phone is for business purposes, and is my life. I need this to work ASAP.

Regards,
Michael
