Default Opera Mini as default browser.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

As a heavy Blackberry user and Opera Software employee I am interested in how many would be interested in having the option to set Opera Mini as default browser on their Blackberry. Currently that is not possible, and we have not been able to find a way to implement it.

I think we all can agree that the Blackberry browser isn't great, so being able to use another browser as the default one may for some be beneficial.

I think many users here would like to have that option. I would.

Opera mini don't handle file transfers, I believe you are right, many people want to change it. But BB are not the only phones, this apply for Nokia aswell, when downloading anything, it will open the phone default browser

Since Opera is my preferred browser, except when downloading apps., it would be nice. But maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised with the browser tweaks on OS 4.5.

I too would love to see the Opera browser the default; I am a long time user of Opera software on both mobile devices and my PC's.

Maybe they could develop a plugin or something whereby the transfer request could be channeled through the BB Browser without actually having to launch it. I think the part that bugs people about the BB Browser having to launch is the time it takes to do so. Mobile browsing is typically and understandably slower than PC/Mac browsing so anything that could be done to help speed up the overall/transfer process would be great.

It's all about choice and personalization. Options for defaulting a browser - any browser - is a positive thing.

Probably the only way to get it to be even similar is if more people wrote in to Opera to try and convince them to make a regular Opera Mobile version for the BB. One can only dream...

Default Ahhhhh I don't feel so bad now!

Being somewhat new to the forums, I just thought that there was something that I was missing with making Opera my default browser. However, I am relieved to know that this is a feature desired by many and not just my BBerry inexperience. Man do I enjoy learning!

It would be a great option to have. The standard, built-in browser would become a simple download manager, opening only when you click a download link. The final leg of the problem would be to have the BB browser exit on completion of the download. Tell it to automatically p!ss off.

This is a great idea, something that should have been done a long time ago.

I totally think Opera should part of the Blackberry OS instead of the blackberry web browser. Opera is far superior.

Considering how absolutely pathetic the Blackberry default browser is, I completely agree.

Just an update to this thread. Although this is a great idea, OS 4.5 and or 4.6 should in theory, upgrade the native BB browser to be as good as Opera. This remains to be seen.

4.3 isn't near Opera I know that. But I would love that option, but only if there was a way to download files with Opera. Like they said a full blown BlackBerry Specific Opera Browser would be the best bet. BUT SIGN ME UP!
