Default Screwed up

I did this and all it did was make my screen all weird..it didn't show a background picture or anything... weird...
I got it all back by taking it out of the folder and running the app loader...but it scared me a lot!!

That happens when you remove the theme currently in use. Change to a theme you aren't going to remove. Then do the process. Or when it shows the white screen with the black icons just go in and choose a theme. The black/white is just no theme in use.

I have not installed the new device software because I learned after calling both T-Mobile and Blackberry that even if I did a backup/restore, it would only backup DATA but NOT the 3rd party apps. Those will get erased if you perform the system update.

Juwaack is correct. The process backs up & restores your 3rd party apps. The only thing you lose during an OS upgrade is some data within your 3rd party apps. All your data and the apps will be restored. You will need to reenter any registration codes for 3rd party apps. You can even make a backup of 3rd party apps. There is a sticky thread in the General Discussion area for that.

I tried to do this on my 8900 and nothing happened. The app loader gave me that "no necessary actions" blurb. It worked on my 8220. any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong?

Hi all!

I've had these symptons from time to time. Clearing more free space is definitely the way forward!

HOWEVER... (here comes the killer...) I've noticed my Pearl 8100 has been clearing my call logs and SMS inbox EVEN THOUGH I had plenty of space! 21MB! I noticed pretty quickly what it had done, and coincidentally I had only just checked the free space, because I'm doing it regularly now (a precautionary measure). After the device did its neat little trick, I checked again and it said 19MB. What the smeg is going on?

Thank you all very very much in advance!

Alex =)

PS - shall i post this as a new thread?

Default what exactly is gobbling all the memory?

hi again!

does anyone know how to work out which apps are actually using the memory. something seems to be gobbling up my memory pretty quickly! It went from 20MB to 10MB free in just a couple of days. I did a battery pull reset and it went straight back up to 23MB!

I'd rather not have to do such a reset every couple of days, so how can i find out which apps are the culprits?

thanks,
alex =)

Default Sample Pics

John:
Thank you for this informational guide. I used it on my 8310 with no problem (after a bit of scary white screen of death and reloading). Now I have a Bold. I just upgraded to .247. Before I installed the OS, I thought I would remove the sample pics and some themes that are preinstalled. I deleted the _vendor ID "102" from the BlackBerry.alx file. I also deleted any other _vendor ID "xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx" files. Was this the correct thing to do? I thought I found the sample pics folder in medialoader.lib, but apparently that was not it. All I accomplished was removing too many themes. I put all the files back, except for the zen themes. I seem to have replaced everything I need, but along with it came more than I had in my original .167. Nifty as they are, I usually only use one theme--just change the wallpaper. I still have the sample pics. Short of removing anything that looks like it may be that folder and reinstalling them one at a time, I am at a loss as to which files I need to remove.

I did, however, hope that you can tell me which files contain the sample pics. Also, are all the preinstalled ring tones/alarms/alerts/etc. in one file? I would like to use some of them, but remove the rest. If this is not possible, I will just live with them all.

Thank you in advance for reading my rambling letter and for any help you can give me. You and your associates in this forum have taught me much about my bb. I recommend you to any blackberry user I know.

Again, thanks for all you do.

any thoughts anyone? i'd really love to get this sorted!

just did another battery pull, and memory went up from 11MB to 21MB.

is there anything i can do so i don't have to keep doing this every few days?

and any ideas why i am sometimes losing data even though i have plenty of free memory?! (see my post above).

thanks all,

alex =)
