Did it get wet by any chance, even with just a bit of water, but this doesn't sound like a wet problem.

How often does this happen? In what situation? My thought is that you are pressing the key a bit longer or harder than normal causing it to repeat. Is that a possibility?

Water??I don't think so,it happen sometimes when I'm typing using,email,bbm,internet,I thinks it not because a software,maybe I press harder I thinks,but if I press longer it will be a capital letter rite?

Sounds like you are pressing the letter twice sometime. Happens to me occasionally.

That's right. Pressing a key and holding it only should turn the lower case to upper. Not sure what would cause the double letters unless you're somehow hitting it twice by accident. This keyboard does take a bit of getting used to.

This is apparently a hardware defect, experienced by a number of people, myself included. I went through four replacement 9780s before getting one that didn't have the problem. The most recent replacement has been stutter-free since I got it about three weeks ago. Some of the replacements were worse than others, but all showed signs of the problem within five or ten minutes of random testing.

The space bar is commonly affected, so if auto-punctuation is turned on people find that they. Start new. Sentences. When they didn't expect to. But other letters can also be affected.

Incidentally, the T-Mobile US reps with whom I spoke about the problem were definitely aware of it, and didn't resist sending out replacements.

I am very happy to report that this appears to have been a software problem. I was having the same double letter issue with my 9780 for several months. I was even considering getting rid of the phone because of it.
Well yesterday I updated to 6.0.0.526 and the problem is completely gone. I have been testing it like crazy because I was sure that it was a hardware issue and not one double type character has occured!

BTW, I constantly update to the latest OS so this fix is new to .526.

You're lucky, because this isn't a software issue. I've been through every OS all they way up to .526 and the issue is still there. It started a few months after I got my 9780.

Any of you tried replacing the keyboard? They're cheap to buy. It's probably the membrane and not the upper keyboard that needs replacing. Check this out:

The only issue is - if you open up your BB you can invalidate your warranty. So this is probably an option for someone whose BB is not so new.

It is NOT the peel-off white membrane in the link above. Yesterday, I swapped the keyboard (rubber and plastic) from my 9700 to my 9780 in 10 minutes. The problem is now gone. Anyone suggesting it's an OS issue has another issue - but not this issue. Every single issue like this, except one in this thread, required a unit exchange, not software, from what was written here. I'm not sure - but I suspect it has to do with the rubber density on the keypad not being up to standards and wearing over a short time. Mine went bad after only 3 months, yet my 9700 withstood 8 or more, till I taught it to swim, unsuccessfully I may add too...

When I opened my BB and closed it back up, there was NO evidence that it had ever been opened. If you're careful - it comes out perfect, but the operation isn't for the faint of heart.
