Sadly the days of of push email are 3-4 years ago for us. We have a number of applications we push via BES now, force web traffic for websense, encrypt MicroSD etc so I'm thinking BES Express policies will not be up to snuff for everything we have going on with Blackberry.

Now it is appealing for personal liable but depends on what IT policy settings are included (or omitted). We know remote wipe, password enforce / timeout are there so we'll just have to see. It would be great to identify some users who do not need as robust security and split out the environment.

I'm also concerned no HA is part of BESX so I'd have to live with the Hot/Cold spare setup from the past.

There are alot of personal liable questions / policy to get figured out before this can happen but it's definately appealing and now you don't have to hear all the crap how Exchange ActiveSync is "free".

We will most likely stay on BES because our BES 5 implementation will take advantage of HA which isn't offered in BES Express. On my personal setup, yes, i will be dropping BPS in favor of this primarily because of the desire for HTML email. When is this actually hitting the market in March? Also, what's with the rumor that RIM will be charging a $5 monthly fee for every BES activated on your BES Express server?

It does state there will be 35+ policies included with it and I just deployed BES enterprise for a client with 500 blackberries and they opted to set 10 of the policies, mainly around password and setting the name on the device...other then that they really were not interested in much else.

Couple this with the fact they paid nothing for the server or CAL licenses (because it was all provided by the carriers, who you know didn't pay anything either), then BES is not a money maker for RIM anymore it seems.

When thinking about 100 of my smb clients, I cannot fathom any of them needing more then a few policies on their phones and if you can OTA activate then really, Blackberry is releasing this to ensure that they still have a market to compete with the iphones and other smartphones.

Will be nice to be able to provide them with BES for free...so that they have the same functionality as their ego maniac apple friends...

Of course it is - part of your monthly subscription fees to BES plans goes to RIM - it's a hidden monthly licensing fee that provides a whole lot of cash flow for RIM.

If I jump ship, can I use my existing SRP and my existing database? i.e. just uninstall the previous BES install and install BES Experss?

there is no upgrade path from BES 3.6.

Unsupported but I hear you can install on new server with new database and use transporter to move them.

There is no inplace upgrade or downgrade with BES Express 5.0

I just found out that our company's looking at moving off BES and going to the dark side to get into app development. Can't blame them there since a lot of our clients are using iPhone's now and want apps for them customized for the apps we're writing for them.

I read that you can't have a BES Express and BES server in the same domain environment and that it does not allow you migrate. How can I move to BES Express without having to reactivate all my users?

I'm considering swapping to BESX. Most of the handhelds in my environment are personaly owned. I'm sure my users would love to drop the Enterprise services on their data plans. Couple of questions:

1. Does RIM offer Technical Support options on BESX?
2. Can I access internal services like Rove Mobile Admin?
