Default 8800 vs 8820 vs 8830 vs 8900

Please Login to Remove!

What are the basic differences between these units???

Is it something like:

8800 = no wi-fi ; no camera
8820 = same as 8800 but with wi-fi ; still no camera ?
8830 = same a 8800 but with wi-fi AND camera ?
8900 = ????

Thanks

The 88XX's do not have cameras.

The 83XX's do.

8800 is the base model with GPS and works on the GSM network. The 8820 adds WiFi. The 8830 is on CDMA network, I know it has GPS but unsure about WiFi. None of the 8800 series phones have cameras.

I think they're just a figment of our imagination.

To add...

The 8830 is hybrid CDMA (base) AND GSM (roaming) network BlackBerry so it may be used as a world phone for travel. It will not support North American GSM frequencies (850 1900).

In Canada, I believe it will be offered by Bell and Telus.

I'm debating between getting the 8800 now, or the 8820 (with wi-fi) later. This would be my first blackberry.

It's anyones guess I suppose but if the 8820 is out in May in the states, it might only be available in Canada on Rogers in September.

Long wait, but tempted to wait it out as :

1) wi-fi would be useful with growing hotspots everywhere - I supposed it would not give me increased coverage , but it certainly would be cheaper usage if I would otherwise be exceeding my plan limits.

2) I doubt if there would be a future firmware upgrade to make the 8800 wi-fi capable

3) I doubt if the Rogers hardware upgrade path from 8800 to 8820 would be reasonable.

Thoughts??

Yes most likely offered by BellUS! ;)

4 providers (Cingular, Rogers, Tmobile UK, and now Tmobile US soon) and NON with 8820 (inc WiFi) - the darling unit of my dreams .

Its not gonna happen especially with QTR 2 just begun and with it ending in July, its either before end of May or its never gonna show.

There wont be a Firmware upgrade for the 8800 to enable Wi-fi as there is no wi-fi chip in it...

Can someone clarify how the 8900 fits in?

I found some good info on of various models in the 8300 forum, which together with this thread, brings me to this summary to date:

8800:
QWERTY
GPS
Trackball
thin form factor
EDGE
No wi-fi
No camera

8820:
8800 + WiFi (GSM)
Not yet released

8830:
8800 + WiFi (CDMA) ...EVDO, GPRS (dual European bands)
Not yet released

8300:
QWERTY
GPS
Trackball
thin form factor
EDGE
2.0 Mpix camera
3.5mm headset jack (others are 2.5mm)
different form factor than 8800 - slightly shorter in "Y", narrow in "X" and thicker in "Z" the latter two are pretty marginal though given side-by-side pictures
No wi-fi
Not yet released

8320:
8300 + WiFi
Not yet released

8900:
????
