Is there a way to install a Blackberry Driver without installing Desktop Manager?

The basic idea is we want users to be able to charge USB Blackberrys from their PC's and laptops, but there is no need to sync - ever. Everything is set to wireless sync.

The second part of the question would be, will the PC charge the device even if it does not have the driver installed?

Install the BlackBerry Device Manager instead. If you don't want to install BDM you can create a custom package that will only install the drivers and properly register them. There is a document in the BlackBerry Knowledge Center on how to do it. This would require repackaging skills and something like Wise Package Studio or InstallShield Admin Studio.

Yes, you can charge the BlackBerry via USB without the drivers. BUT, it is so slow that IMHO its not worth it.

I just did this on my home PC........

In the download for BES 4.1 Exchange, there is a file RimUsbDrivers.cab.

1. Open the cab file with winzip and extracted contents.

2. Removed the funky hex extensions from the files.

3. Use XP device manager to specify location of driver files

When you connect the BlackBerry and search the Windows Update site, it will install the drivers as well.
