Default Verizon Broadband Plan thru BB - More Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All. I am new to this stuff, so forgive me if I do not follow protocol or use the right terminology.

We just found out about the broadband thru Verizon (we live in the middle of nowehere and wanted better than dial up). We decided on getting a BB for me and one for my DH, and using his as our modem. We heard the plan was 29.99 plus 15 for using it as a modem. I searched some of the old posts on this site for info. It sounded like a lot of people had trouble with their CSRs not knowing the deal, and basically having to tell them how to place the order.

When we chatted with the CSR while I ordered online, we were told the 44.99 plan included the broadband tethering 15 fee. Not so. When we connected we got the screen saying we owed 15 on top of the 44.99. I called Verizon and got him changed to the 29.99 plan, but now it says the fee is 30 on top of that to tether. What gives?

No matter which data plan you have for your Blackberry, your data plan plus tethering will add up to $60. Many people (including me) don't think that this is reasonable, but this IS how it works, at least on Verizon.

A friend of mine has a 6GB plan on Rogers (Canada) and can use the 6GB however he wants, including tethering. If Verizon offered a similar plan (even a lower data volume) at a reasonable price, I would take jump at it.

Is that $30 for tethering for both devices, or for each device? It should be $15 for each device.

It's $30 if on the $44.99 plan or $15 if on the $29.99 plan.

The tethering option is added to a line/device, it's not a blanket option on the account. If you have BIS on both Blackberries and add tethering to HIS BB ONLY, you can use HIS BB as a modem. This is what I think you were referring to in your original message. Doing this would cost $30 per month.

You could only connect one desktop (or other device) at a time directly to the BB for tethering purposes. However, I guess it would be possible to use Windows connection sharing to allow multiple desktops to access the Internet via the single tethered BB.
