It is a nice feature on the iphone. RIM should make it a shortcut or add it to the symbols menu.

Why don't you just assign an autotext to a symbol that isn't used much like sym-x (€) and make that autotext your .com

I understand, but I was trying to give a useful workaround to not having it fixed. If you don't like the suggestion, don't use it, it was for everyones benefit....

I didn't mean that its not helpful
But my question was why not since this phone built for business and internet.

Because you have to strike a balance between size of device and size of buttons. More buttons means smaller buttons.

You can do whatever you want with autotext rather than just what Apple intends for you to do with their .com button. I don't see a need to "fix" anything...

Emphasis added above, and you've answered your own question.

I think RIM did not do it so you would type more often. when people are typing on their BB they look important.

It is all in the perception of other looking at you.

Or,

Press <space>

press c

press o

press m

if you're in a field that's expecting a URL.

If they were to [fix] a .com button, where would they put it?

Even on the iPhone, the ".com" virtual button only appears within Safari. It's not presented everywhere that it could be useful.

Yeah.

Plus, what about all the dot net, dot org, dot gov and dot (fill in the blank) sites we go to?

We need soooo many more buttons.
