Default duplicate emails on desktop

Please Login to Remove!

I have a blackerry Curve and I use Outlook 2003 on my laptop. My email is provided through an internet provider "Aliant" it is not an internal mail server. I use only one email that I have synced with both the outlook and the bb so that they will appear on both. To accomplish this I have the option to 'leave a copy of messages on the server' checked in outlook. I am now getting duplicates of those emails in my outlook. I have contacted my service provider "Aliant" but they say it is a Microsoft problem. I cannot seem to find any documentation on it however. Any advice?

Thank you

I assume that it was working correctly at one point?

What did you change right before this began happening? Did you add a rule to Outlook?

No I didn't add any rules in outlook. Yes it was working correctly initially. It does seem to happen sporadically. It is happening more consistently now for the past week. I can't think of any config changes that I made, it would be mostly default settings - other than leaving a copy on the server...

Are there any third part applications integrated into the mail sending and/or retrieval process on the desktop, such virus scanners, firewalls, etc? If so, try temporarily disabling them and see what happens, and also make sure that you are using the latest version.

Since it is only happening in Outlook, seems like your email d/l could be timing out before it completes and then restarts and downloads everything again. I have had that happen a couple times. Could it be a really big file trying to d/l or a corrupt file as well that stops the process?

I assume you are not getting the dupes on your BB?

Yes that's right - no dupes on the bb. I have checked the online site for my email account and deleted all emails on the server and i don't see anything. How would I check that? Thanks

Default Same Here

I am having the exact same problem with Aliant. They have admitted that there is a problem and are blaming it on Microsoft. I have enabled logging in Outlook and here is the problem:

2008.11.25 11:30:22 POP3: [tx] STAT
2008.11.25 11:30:22 POP3: <rx> -ERR mail storage services unavailable, wait a few minutes and try again.

Outlook doesn't handle the -ERR message from Aliant and downloads everything from the server on the next send/receive.

Are you getting the username/password dialog box popping up?

No, it is still ongoing.

I just got off the line with senior technical support and they are predicting that it will be fixed in January when they install new servers.

Somebody from Aliant has promised to call back on Monday.

Thanks - Unbelievable - January! I guess that's typical Aliant customer service... I'm going to start hassling them more. If nothing else it will help alleviate some of the frustration...

Yes, they called back.

At first, they were saying that the problem would be fixed in January 2009 when they installed new servers.

Then I got an e-mail later in the morning from somebody in support who said that they re-booted a server which was causing the problem.

According to my Outlook log, the problem hasn't happened since.
