Default is it possible to remove applicatioons from BES server (5.0)

Please Login to Remove!

We currently block the device user from downloading 3rd party apps to their devices, there have been many requests to allow certain ones and now we are rethinking about letting them download apps. I know how to see what applications the have installed on their devices from the BAS, but is there a way to remove an app if we do not want them to use it. If it is not part of the BES server is there a program that can interface with the BES or would we have to remove it from the device manually.

You can use Software Configuration on BES to disallow/remove apps from the handheld.
This is detailed in the BES 5 administration guide, and has also been discussed a few times in this forum.

I wanted to find out if there is a way to let them download certain apps without having to manage them all the time. We can monitor it here and there and remove something if we see necessary. It is just not feasible for time to take every request from users, we just do not have enough resources to work on this all the time.

Yes, you can create a software whitelist which basically allows only the applications which you want to allow, and then disallows everything else.

You can also do the opposite, which allows everything, but explicitly disallows any apps you want to blacklist.

Software configuration is very flexible and I'm sure you can find a way to achieve what you're looking to do.

You can start here (BES 4.1 docs, but same general principle in BES 5)
