Default Planned Power Down Of Bes, A Few Questions!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all,

My company is currently planning a scheduled powerdown of our entire building in the next couple of weeks. The last time this happened I had all sorts of problems after the BES was brought back up.

Out of about the 350 users we support we had to reactivate about half and resend service books to the other half due to the devices failing to reconcile once the BES was back up and running.

As you can imagine this involved quite a bit of work and was both annoying and time consuming.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? and is there anything that I can do to avoid this happening again? other than reactivating devices or resending service books? preventative measures?!!

We are running Blackberry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange 4.1.1 (bundle 28)

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Simon

Maybe upgrading to 4.1.5 might help with some of it.
Most report the upgrade is easy.

Did Exchange and BES get powered off?

Yes both Exchange and BES were powered down for about 24 hours.

That is very strange. Was the main mail server fully powered on before you powered up the BES? That definitely should not have happened.

we've had a few planned powerdowns for our systems, once for moving server rooms, another to clean the room out from dust/crap from a construction project. Just make sure you shut down the BES first, then mail server, then domain controller(s). Then reverse that order when powering up. Power up domain controller(s), let them fully power up and all services start, then power up mail server, make sure the mail server is functioning properly, then power up the BES.

If you do it something like that you generally shoudln't have a problem.
