I started the install directly on my (2003) Exchange server - which already had an instance MS SQL Server 2005 Express (SP3) on it for the backup software. The install failed due to an error with SQL. The exact error message was:

SQL Server 2005 Express SP3 installation has failed. Please check the install log for more information.

Setup will now exit.

I was able to find a log file @ \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Summary.txt

Inside the log file it stated:

Error String : An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlrun_tools.msi'.

Thoughts?

I was able to get past the initial setup screen by selecting a remote (as opposed to local) database. About half way through setup, it prompted me for the database information, which I then supplied as local (with one of the existing instances).

As luck would have it, the install completed successfully.

There is, however, one issue. when I open the Blackberry Server Configuration applet and click the 'Test SQL Connection' button on the Database Connectivity tab, it takes about 30 seconds for it to come back. It does say that the test connection to the database was successful but the delay has me concerned.

Silly question - if you click the test button, how long does it take?
