Hi, new to the forum and quite new to BES admin. My question is regarding the installation of Exchange ON a BES Server? I have inherited a network that has installed Exchange 2003 on the BES because the belief is that Exchange is needed on the BES to work. I have only read that BES needs ACCESS to Exchange and not a complete Exchange installation on the BES server.

Could anyone tell me what the recommended configuration is.

Where BES is concerned, it's always best to have your exchange and BES installs on different servers.

So, I understand that I need to only install the Exchange Management tools from the Exchange CD so BES can connect to Exchange using MAPI??

This answers my question:

BES Software Requirements

Your BES server will need to run Microsoft Windows 2000 (Server or Advanced Server editions) or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1

You will need to install Microsoft Exchange 2003 System Manager ONLY (do not install a full Exchange Server on the BES computer)
