Default Notes roaming users not syncing to BES copy of address book

Please Login to Remove!

So, I am new at this company and saw that they are installing the BB software on every laptop so that they can get their PABs synced. I decided to make myself and another new hire roaming users so that our PABs would sync wirelessly. What a foolish mistake. Now that we are roaming users, we are not syncing to the BES copy of the lotus notes address book. So when we send an email internally and they reply on their BB it is bounced back. I don't know what do to force us to sync over to the BES. Please help!! Thanks so much.

You don't need to synch the PAB to the BES server, it just has to be available to the BES.

Some things to check/try:

1. What is the location of your PAB replica on the server?
2. Does the PAB ACL have an entry of MANAGER for the Domino BES and/or a group it is in?
3. What PAB is referenced on your account in the BlackBerry Manager PIM Sync settings?

Actually, please also confirm:

Domino Version
BES Version
Handheld software Version

I'm not sure that setting up a PAB sync will even fix this.

The BB should be able to reply to a message it has received, particularly from a user in the same domino domain. Is there something odd going on with mail addressing in your Domain?
Also, unless your BB users copy every Domino Directory record into their PABs, this would not "solve" the issue of failed replies anyway.

What error do you get in the DFRs on the BB?

Thanks for your help, Jadey. It looks as if there are two notes servers. The main one that we all use for email and then one that is installed on the BES server. The notes server installed on the BES server has a replica of the global address book (names.nsf) local on that machine. The problem is that the two people I have made roaming users on the mail server are not showing up on the replica on the BES server.

BES 4.1.3.18
Lotus Notes 8

BB users can reply to any internal email and it works fine except for the two users I have made roaming. UGH

The bounce error says
User Mickey Mouse/Company (Mickey Mouse/Company@Company) not listed in Domino Directory.

I know that the address books are syncing properly b/c a new notes user that I did not make roaming is on the names.nsf on the BES server.

The copy of the public addressbook on the mail server does not have the blackberry lotus notes server as an entry in the ACL.

Thank you!

OK, well the crux of your problem seems to be an inconsistent names.nsf across the domain.

Are the mail and BES servers in the same Domino Domain?
If YES, then they should have identical replicas of the Domino Directory on each server, set as names.nsf (not a different replica file name).

First thing I think we need to tackle is why the roaming users' person records are not replicating across copies of the Domino Directory (names.nsf). First things to do/check:

a) Are the 2 domino servers (BES and Mail) in the same Domino Domain?
b) Do they both have replicas of the SAME Domino Directory as names.nsf on server?
c) Is there a replication criteria on the BES replica of the DD?

If you do not know how to check these things, let me know.

just swap the address book the user uses (on the users work space) to the BES copy, that way it'll replicate down, we have this problem all the time on our network (3500 BB users europe wide) so it's a quick fix.

I'm not sure that'll fix the issue of 2 server replicas of the Domino Dir not replicating properly with each other though.

Thanks everybody for your help. Jadey, I checked the replica IDs on the two names.nsf's on each server and they are the same. I don't know how to tell how often it is replicating. But I have forced a replication and that does not make those two users go over there. Yes, both servers are on the same domain. Thanks again!

What ACL entry does the BES Domino Server have on the 2 replicas of the Domino Directory? Are you enforcing a consistent ACL?

(If you don't know how to check, let me know)

Jadey - The ACLs look identical. I have person / manager access
The atlanta/notes has server / manager access on blackberry/notes and vice versa
the local domain servers have server group / manager
the other domain servers have server group / reader
Thank you, Thank you

So... what you are telling me is:

a) They physical file "names.nsf" on EACH SERVER (BES and Mail) are replicas of the same Domino Directory
b) The MAIL server AND the BES server both have either ACL access as Manager, or they are in a group with ACL access as Manager
c) Person documents for roaming users exist in the MAIL server names.nsf, but not the BES names.nsf

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to diagnose without access to see the system!

Hmmm. Try running fixup, compact and updall on the names.nsf on BES, then re-replicate. Go onto the BES server console and do a "repl mailserver names.nsf" and see whether any of those docs move across...

It won't let me compact. It says someone has it open but I have gone around and asked the IT people and no one does. Maybe the BES server is accessing it?

You may want to check the AdminP database on the mailserver for errors on the roaming upgrade requests - they may point to the source of the issue.

Hi, all, thanks for all your input and help. I followed Jadey's instructions (everything but compact command) and the names are now synching. HURRAH Thank you all!!

Fab, has that sorted out the resultant mail bounce issues?
