Default 8830 GPS Service Book

Please Login to Remove!

I sent off an email to RIM today saying that the GPS in my 8830 has stopped working agian. Can you please resend the servicebook to enable the GPS agian.

about 15 minutes later my phone beeps. I look at its a message that says
This message is used to carry data between the Blackberry handheld and the associated server. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the server.

Then it has a bunch or garbled text and says 1 attachment. (the attachment cant be opend).

These are the type of messages I would get when trying to register my email on BES. However my blackberry is using BIS NOT BES.

It dosnt look like it did anything to my blackberry but someone that is on BES try doing the same and let us know what happens.

Send the email to [email address] and don't forget to include your blackberries PIN number so they know where to send it.

That message you go is because you tried to complete an enterprise activation. No one at RIM manually sent that message to you. Actually, you sent it to yourself.

If you need help with your GPS not working you need to contact your cellular carrier. Seeing that you have Verizon explains why your GPS is not working. Verizon has disabled the GPS function and will be selling it as a service along with VZNavigator.

I would recommend that you post the issues that your experiencing in the GPS forum. You don't really have any information about the original problem here.

First of all, No i did not send it myself.

second, I tried the BES activation over a month ago and they stoped sending those messages after about a day or 2.

Third I am not having any more trouble than every other verizon 8830 user. Yes I know verizon disables the GPS. This is the reason im trying to get RIM to enable it.

Fourth, This message was just to let people know that I asked RIM to send out a GPS service book and they did actualy send something.

Fifth, If you reread my post you would see that im not asking for any help.

Which is obvious nonsense, since the GPS in the 8830 was never working for you to begin with.

Apparently you are having more trouble than "every other verizon 8830 user".
The rest of us understand that Verizon has crippled GPS in the 8830, and we've accepted the fact that ONLY VERIZON can enable it.
RIM can't do anything for you.

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but I believe this has been explained to you in this forum in the past.
If it wasn't directed to you.. then I'm sure the information is out there for anyone, yourself included, to read.

Leave it alone. You're not going to "fool RIM" into enabling your GPS. It doesn't work like that.

Yeah, I can see your point.
I mean, why would anyone want to suffer with EVDO when you can enjoy the dial-up speeds of EDGE.

RIM did NOT send you that email. The email was generated automatically because you tried the enterprise activation. Delete any service books that start with "desktop" and you will not get that message anymore. Also, RIM does not send you service books except through your wireless provider.

Hah, sounds like a bitter fool who's mad because his GPS was crippled.

When the Blackberry becomes more multimedia friendly, I'll worry about 3G data. Until then, what do I need it for?

Interesting assumption, but I couldn't care less about the GPS in the 8830. It's not the reason I have the device. So, strike two for you.

You made a blanket statement about Verizon users, which implied that it doesn't make sense to choose Verizon simply because they crippled GPS in their devices.
This basically disregards any and all other positives which would make one choose Verizon over another carrier.

Certainly, EVDO is one of those positives. Maybe not to you, but definitely to others.
Wireless coverage in a particular geographic area is another big positive.

Where I live, I can ONLY get a Verizon wireless signal in my home. No other carrier provides mobile phone service in my basement. Believe me, I tried. Since my office is down there, this is important to me, as I'm sure it is to others.

I'm certainly no fool, as you have so eloquently stated. I chose the right carrier and the right device for my needs, which makes my decision a rather smart one.

penguin's no fool, very good person on here to give advice.

I agree that it comes down to coverage and for alot of areas Verizon is king because they bought some of the regional companies and that gives them great coverage. For the EVDO I think that tethering is the best use for it with BB, I find that the browsing on the device is only average at best. Now if only Verizon had the Tmo tethering strategy then i would be very interested.

GPS is a good option but it should not be a deal breaker for most people, although i think i might use it more than my browser at this point.

That sounds like another pretty good reason to dump Verizon. I'd like to be able to use my cell phone in my home, at work, on the roads in-between and in the nearby communities too -- not just in my home. You might as well just use a land line if your coverage is that bad!

In any case, I'm against giving my dollar to a company who cripples devices in order to force you into buying their services. I think it's an unethical business practice and I'm just surprised so many people are willing to support them.

But hell, to each their own, eh?

You've misunderstood my statement, which may have been worded poorly on my part.

I didn't mean that I can only use Verizon within my home and nowhere else. I can use Verizon wherever I go.

I meant that Verizon was the only carrier that provided service where I live.
This is certainly a good reason to keep them... not dump them.

I see the wink... maybe you were being facetious? If you were... bravo.

Questioning their intelligence?! You called me a fool, and a bitter one at that!
I did not attack you personally at all. How am I berating anyone?

You should also not assume that anyone here is a 'he' or a 'tough guy'. You don't know me, and you could be wrong.
Just sayin'
