Why don't you try it?? it works from a PC only. If you can emulate a PC and USB ports, why not? try it.

I don't see why not. Desktop Manager runs fine on VirtualPC so as long as you can get the USB to recognize the device, you should be all set.

Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

[EDIT] Sorry for the duplicate. When I went 'back' on my BB, it reposted this message.

Dual boot your MAC to Windows using the BootCamp software from Apple. Then you can do it from your MAC (Hardware) running Windows XP.

Umm, why dont you just go find one of the 5 trillion PCs on the planet and do it from there? I dont think there is anyone in the western world that doesnt have access to a PC. It seems like you are making the upgrade process much harder on yourself than it has to be...

I tried getting the virtual USB drive to recognize the BB using VPC and it wont work. I remember reading somewhere on why it wont recognize it... VPC sees that there is a BB device but it can not communicate with it. Don't bother. Only option is if you have an INTEL mac, to boot into windows or find a windows PC.

Oh, c'mon, you wouldn't consider finding or borrowing someone else's computer and installing the DM software and downloading the update to your BB then uninstalling the software to be more work than finding a way to do it from your own computer from home? Not everyone here is an IT manager.

Yes I know that I could go and find someone elses Windows running PC but that just takes the fun out of the adventure we call trying to get windows monopolized software to work on my beloved mac, BTW I run boot camp and Windows XP as well so its not really an issue of finding someone's computer to make it work on.

Yup, Intel Mac is where its at. This kinda stuff is why its good to just put a copy of XP on your Mac, use it for these kinds of things & boot right back into OS X.

Not trying to be an a jerk, just dont understand why you want to make things hard on yourself. Its not like flashing your 8100 is something you will do everyday, so I would imagine that doing it on a pc would be a whole lot less trouble than trying to find a workaround on the Mac. Someone suggested dual-booting your Mac, which seems like a whole lot of effort just to be able to flash your Pearl. It would only take 2 minutes to install Desktop Manager on a pc, and 2 minutes to uninstall. Now if you are simply trying to be rebellious against M$, well, thats ok with me....

Point taken, I can always use my PC at work. Just want to see if it can be done on a Mac and I'll try and post my results. My only problem is VirtualPC seeing the USB drivers.

I must not be doing it right then, every time I do an update to my OS it takes me half a day to get it done. or at least longer than the 5 minutes you make it sound like. the dual boot system sounds the way to go if I had a mac. and rebelling against the M$ is only one reason to go there. (wishing I had gone to the dark side on my last pc purchase)

Well, I meant 3 minutes total to install and uninstall the Desktop Manager software. I didnt include the amount of time it would take to actually flash the phone, because that would be the same whether you were using a Mac or PC. But for me, the update process took under 10 minutes(if I remember correctly). Certainly not all day.
