Default recovering purged messages from "purged messages database"

Please Login to Remove!

I have religiously backed up my BB, and then religiously deleted the old backup files on my desktop.

I now realize that between the most recent backup and the one before last, I have deleted some e-mail and PIN messages that I now want to recover. I use the Blackberry web client and the desktop organizer, so there is no way of recovering my BB messages from my server.

The advanced backup feature on the desktop says that there is a database of 500 purged messages, which can be restored onto the handheld... but even when I do that, I can't access them.

Is there anyway to recover purged messages either on the handheld or via the desktop?

Well since the BlackBerry webclient is run by your Mobile Carrier you will have to contact them to see if they can recover them for you, I doubt it but they would be the one who would be able to do it.

As for the ones on your handheld I couldn't find any information from RIMs Technical Knwoledge Base, if you need to you can contact RIM directly at 877-255-2377..

I called the tech line for Rogers. No they can't restore my old messages. No they don't know how to get the "purged messages database" files (85 of them) into some readable format.

This doesn't entirely make sense.. if there is a database of purged files on the handheld, they should be recoverable, even if the file only contains headers and sent-to lists.

definately, if there is items in the database there has to be a way to restore them.. I work for Cingular Data Support so next time I give RIM a call I can ask and see what they say about the backup files.

I must admit I have always wondered this myself, I also have contact with RIM, but as yet have been unable to establish how you can get them back.

Quick update, it's been slow here at Cingular Data Support in terms of RIM Escalations so I haven't gotten a chance to speak to a Tier II Technician for you yet...

But I haven't forgotten about this issue.

Thanks... I agree, there must be a way to do this if the backup/restore function allows you to restore the purged files to the handheld, then it should also be able to restore them back to a re-readable state.

And I'd bet that I'm not the only person who has said... "oops"...

This tread reminds me of the Sienfeld episode when the rental car company didn't have a car for Jerry. Except this would be;

It knows how to store a purged message, you just can't get the message out. Any one can store a message but if you can't get the message back then what good is it?

Good one! Talked to RIM today but the rep had no idea and I had a customer on the line so I couldn't stay on the line to wait for the rep to look it up... Will continue trying.

Thanks camerch....

I can imagine that it may not be possible from the handheld itself..

However, I can see why a small patch to the Blackberry Desktop Manager or some subprogram in one of the BB simulator programs cannot redirect the "purged messages database" back into the active messages database...

Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

Default purged messages database

i've searched and searched for resolution to this topic. i even went as far as paying 10USD for the 'textfire' software which is supposed to be able to convert my ipd file (containing my purged messages database), but with no luck. the software displays garbage for each of the purged messages. i've followed up with textfire tech support, but haven't heard back from them.

anybody else been able to find a resolution to this problem?

i have blackberry 8700 (4.1.0.284) and 4.2.0.10 desktop software.

thanks,
h
