Default BES and Outlook calendar

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

New to BlackBerries and hence the forum.

I have a BB Torch for work use, which connects to a BES server and emails and calendar sync wirelessly - so far, so good.

I also have a personal POP email account (not web-based) which I use both at home and in the office via Outlook - this, being a personal email account, is not connected to the Exchange server. I have added this email account to my BB Torch too, and both email accounts run fine - again, so far, so good.

However, I cannot sync the calendar linked to my personal email account - it seems that the wireless sync setting for the work calendar is interfering, but I do not know BBs well enough to say for sure what the problem/conflict is.

Can BBs handle wireless sync on one calendar and sync via Desktop Manager for another calendar? It seems that wireless sync can be turned on/off for individual email accounts, but I can only see a wireless sync option on the work calendar (which is fine) - there is no wireless option on the personal calendar.

I am also having similar problems with Contacts....

Any help/advice appreciated

Thanks.

Not all email service works. Read below

Note: This feature is supported only on BlackBerry® devices that are running BlackBerry® Device Software 5.0 or later.
Depending on your messaging service plan, this feature might not be supported.
Some types of email addresses, including Google Mail™ addresses and Yahoo!® Mail addresses, allow you to synchronize
contacts between your email account and your BlackBerry device. If you turn on contact synchronization for an email address,
you can add, change, and delete contacts from your device or from your email account, and the BlackBerry Internet Service
synchronizes the changes between your device and your email account.
If you synchronize contacts with multiple email accounts, including an email account that uses a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server,
the contacts application on your device will contain contacts from all synchronized email accounts. However, you cannot
synchronize contacts between different email accounts.
To synchronize contacts, you must use the email setup application on your device or log in to the BlackBerry Internet Service
website using a browser on your computer. You cannot synchronize contacts if you access your BlackBerry Internet Service
account from the browser on your device.
Synchronize your contacts

Depending on your messaging service plan, this feature might not be supported.
To complete this task, you must use the email setup application on your device or log in to the BlackBerry® Internet Service
website using a browser on your computer. You cannot synchronize your contacts from the browser on your device.
From the email setup application on your device
1. In the email setup application, on the Email Accounts screen, highlight the email address that you want to synchronize
contacts with.
2. Press the Menu key.
3. Click Edit.
4. Click Synchronization Options.
5. Select the Contacts check box.
6. Press the Menu key.
7. Click Save.
8. If necessary, type the password for your email address.
9. Click Ok.
10. Click Synchronize.
To stop synchronizing your contacts, clear the Contacts check box.

POP accounts do not support wireless calendar and contacts syncing.

Additionally, you should discuss this with your BES administrator.
They may have policies against syncing other PIM services and can block that functionality on the handheld.

Thanks guys.

I've cleared it with my System Administrator, so no problems on that front.

I don't want to sync the POP account wirelessly, as there is no data available wirelessly. It is on my PC in Outlook, and this is the data I would like to sync using Desktop Manager, with only my Enterprise email account syncing wirelessly.

Are you saying that Desktop manager will not sync Outlook calendar/contacts for a POP email account if a BES email account exists...???

I'd heard good things about BlackBerries...

WE have an Enterprise issue as well regarding thsi specific issue, Wireless Sync between BES and BB Devices will NOT work - either way. I have an open TAC case with RIM T-Supoort and we are looking into the MAPI/CDO issue as well as Microsoft assiting as we have them on site to ddeal with possible changes in permissions on Outlook 2010 Calendar. The only constitan scenario is that the Devices theat will NOT syc OTA are all running OS 6.0 - this might be better moved to the BES Admin Section.

That's correct. When wireless sync is enabled, as it is with your BES account, you won't be able to do a wired sync using desktop software on your PC.

Thanks Penguin.

Not the answer I was looking for

I can understand why you need to have one or the other (wireless or desktop syncing, not both) on any individual account, but it is quite disappointing that RIM haven't incorporated different methods of synchronising different accounts.

I might have to reconsider the iPhone

Just curious, can other phones provide this functionality?

Not 100% sure as I have not tried it myself, but my brother who used to work for O2 (one of the big mobile telecoms companies in UK) as a specialist business advisor reckons it can be done on the iPhone...

Pity I've got the BB Torch already!
