Unhappy BlackBerry Messenger - problem adding contacts

Right, I am not the only one to have this problem, but so far no joy in finding a fix.

Problem:
Unable to add contacts to BlackBerry Messenger. They just stick in the pending queue.

Config:
Bold with provisioning for BES and BIS. Original 4.6 software on handheld, Enterprise Activated on BES 4.1.6. I am the BES Admin, so device has been tested with Corp IT Policy and the unaltered RIM "Default" policy - same behaviour in both cases.

Tried so far:
Numerous battery pulls
Resending IT Policy from BES (x 2 types of policy)
Resending Service Books from BES
Resending Service Books from BIS
Reregistering device on t-mobile network
Turn WiFi on / Turn WiFi off
Tried on 2G and 3G
Tried reregistering handheld on RIM wireless network
Nice friendly reboot of device without battery pull
Tested PIN messaging - I receive all fine, but "problem users" do not receive messages I've sent
Tested adding BBM contacts by PIN
Tested adding BBM contacts by email

Problem:
Cannot get certain BBM contacts out of pending queue.
If I add them via PIN or email, they receive the invitation and acccept, and then we sit in each other's pending queue.
If they add me via PIN or email, I receive the invitation and accept, and then we sit in each other's pending queue

FYI:
BBM messaging works fine with existing contacts. I just cannot add specific new ones.

ANY IDEAS BBF? Am I missing something really obvious here?

Just to isolate, does this happen to all BB's currently administered by your BES?

Haven't tested it on any others. My users are not really bothered by BBM, very few use it, so not sure. I can test that tomorrow when I am back in the office.

Update, I have been told that the PIN messages are not as reliable as I thought to my "problem contacts" - I just managed to add someone else fine. Now down to 2 PINs that just will NOT add.

I currently have one PIN that won't come out of pending. She is one ATT I'm on Sprint..but the only contact that I can't add so far. I'm not even sure I got a proper invite

Have you tried removing one and re-adding. Don't know if that will make a difference but who knows.

Yep, tried that. Tried removing all pending then re-adding.... Or having them add me.
No go. Very odd.

It's you and daphne, added a different new PIN this weekend and it worked. Gonna call RIM and t-mob tomorrow, this is really irritating now.

I am having a similar problem here as well. We had one users that was able to chat away with BBM and as soon as we added her phone to the BES server and she activated all of her BBM contacts stopped sending/receiving the messages.

The same thing happened to my phone as well, except I was able to use BBM even after being on the BES server but they recently stopped working. The strange thing though is that if the users is part of our BES server we can add and chat with them on BBM without issue.

I'm on a BES. In the last 2 weeks, I have managed to add 2 users who are not on my BES, no problems. I have 2 users (not on BES) that will not add. All existing contacts work fine.

The contacts I cannot add also don't get my PIN messages.

I changed the default message service on my BB from my BES to a BIS account. I was able to partially add one of the failed users - i.e. I got her into my contacts list. However, I am still pending on her BB, and we cannot send messages.

!!!!!

Am now upgrading handheld software, and will try again. This is a pain.

You did get added as a contact once for me, but my device showed your status as busy, and you ddin't get my messages, or you got them and could not reply I think.

Yeah I'm still having troubles too. I took her off and added the pin first to the address book and then to the BBM contact list and still nothing.

I'm gonna delete the pending contact and resend one from her phone for me tomorrow and see if that helps, and then if not flip it.

I've tried:

PIN from Address Book, deleting pending contacts in between each try
PIN not in Address Book, deleting pending contacts in between each try
Email from Address Book, deleting pending contacts in between each try
Email not in Address Book, deleting pending contacts in between each try
PIN request with outstanding pending (sent by email) request
Email request with outstanding pending (sent by PIN) request
Pending PIN request on my BB, then asking other user to delete and add me via PIN
Pending PIN request on my BB, then asking other user to delete and add me via email
Pending email request on my BB, then asking other user to delete and add me via PIN
Pending email request on my BB, then asking other user to delete and add me via email
...And every possible combination of invitation in between.

I've tried upgrading my OS to newest version, I've tried reloading BBM.

I am SO out of ideas here. And daphne and ezrunner probably want to kill me thanks to approximately 7.4million failed BBM requests.

And now.... I have totally lost the half-added contact of daphne

Ezrunner - you are in my pending contacts list. You are ALSO in my conversations list, with the green-circle-white-cross pending symbol (?!! How?!). I got your "Jadey!!!!!" message - I am assuming you got none of my replies?

I am calling RIM tomorrow. Ran out of time today...

Hey Jadey... I'm right with ya on this issue now.
I have 2 contacts pending; one in-house on the same BES as me, the other is an external contact. Internal was added with e-mail address, external added wtih PIN.

And to make it even more interesting, YOU are now listed as Unavailable with a bright red X on your name.
