Default Camera takes picture then goes to white screen

Please Login to Remove!

My Curve has suddenly stopped taking pictures. When I take a picture, it flashes like normal and makes the sound, then goes to an all-white screen. If I back out of it, I can go back to the camera and do it again. No hourglass from this, just a white screen that I back out of. When I put the card into my computer, it has 2MB files on it that are not viewable by any program I have tried yet.

The video is weird too. You can see examples below. The color goes all funny and there are lines flickering across the screen.
Outside with grass on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Outside on deck on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Those lines are there with the photo camera too, but it isn't taking pictures properly anyway! Does anyone have any help or suggestions, please? It was fine 12 hours ago!

Oh, and troubleshooting I have tried so far:

alt-cap-del
battery pull several times (including leaving it out for 2 minutes)
battery pull and SIM pull
SIM pull only
cleaning off lens
deleting a big app I downloaded yesterday (although the camera had worked after that)
looking at the camera options (no hints there)
deleting all other pics on card

It takes video but the colors are weird, and doesn't take pictures at all. I'm using 4.5.0.42 but I've used it for 2-3 weeks with no problem, now suddenly it does this. Thanks in advance!

There are known issue with the camera and this beta version. I cannot explain why it was functional and then failed. Honestly, if taking pictures is a must for you then I would suggest downgrading to a supported version.

The only other suggest that I have is to Reformat the card in the device or to change the camera to store on device memory to eliminate the card as the source of the issue

Sorry that I couldn't be of more assistance.

Thank you! Is there another version of 4.5 that is known NOT to have this issue? I really like video recording and being able to search from anywhere using the browser...would be okay with downgrading from 4.5.0.42 to another flavor of 4.5 if that might help.

I would post another thread in the "Beta you than me" thread or search through it for camera issues.

Good Luck!

P.S. Did you try switching storage locations or formatting the card?

Oh dear, downgrading to 4.2.2.170 didn't help either. I will have to keep looking.

Are you storing to your memory card? I'll bet if you copy the pics to a PC and reformat the card in the BB then transfer back things will go quicker.

Unless you are just plain low on Memory. Menu>Options>Status if your file free is less that 12MB you should take steps to free some.

Hi folks, I'm back. This problem resolved itself for me spontaneously - I was downgrading and upgrading the OS to different versions, and suddenly the camera worked normally again. It lasted for about a week, and then the exact same problem returned...I have no clue how I fixed it the last time though!

I have come across a posting on the Cingular forums that EXACTLY describes my problem. I thought perhaps this additional information might help someone figure out what the problem is, perhaps you've heard of these symptoms:

"My camera just started acting up yesterday. When I go to take a picture, the view is different,-different shades, almost metallic. Takes forever to process the picture I take, and then the picture never opens. Also, the file is larger than the other pictures I have; it is 2 MB while the others are around 400 KB. I have tried many things-reducing the size, changing the lighting, changing the quality, taking out my battery to reboot the phone. I HAVE NO IDEA whats going on, please help!"

(Again, that's from the Cingular boards, from November 2007 - but it's the EXACT same problem I am having.)
